In Praise of AweSims.

October 29, 2010 by dasbecca

I just scrapped a rambling three hour entry about my love affair with the Sims series to write this post instead; which is about my love affair with AweSims in particular. I am a Sims interior design addict. It’s hard to explain, or justify, the intense effort I put into creating virtual homes. It’s pretend. It’s pixels on a screen. Why waste an afternoon, others have argued, downloading and arranging digital couches and chairs and lamps? What’s the point?

Here is where I have to show you Sarah’s work.

For almost an entire evening, I was trying to put into words the incredible architectural tools of Sims 3, and the monumental talent of the Sims community. The love behind it. The artistry. The satisfaction of putting together a room; arranging decor that would cost tens of thousands of dollars to have, use, and admire in real life, but costs absolutely nothing to have, use, and admire in the game. The beauty of lighting and texture. The joy of complete immersion into another existence. I couldn’t capture that in ten paragraphs.

But AweSims did it in ten pictures.
Brav
o. Seriously.
Please help yourself to some of her amazing (and completely free) downloads immediately. (And those of you who don’t play Sims: please help yourself to a copy of the game. Heh. There’s always room on the bandwagon.)

This makes me want to reinstall Sims 3. In fact, this makes me want to start a whole neighborhood, where I build/design each home… even if I know I’ll run out of steam halfway through. haha
