This winter kicked my butt. I had a husband who spent most of January traipsing through South America on a business trip while I battled a houseful of stomach flu, night terrors, HEAD LICE (still scarred from that one), broken heat pumps, record-breaking cold temperatures, barking coughs, and the list goes on. February was mildly more tolerable, but the general malaise of that month got to me and I fought to make it through.
My husband has to leave for a week at the end of this month again and I told him that if he wanted me and the kids to be alive when he got home that I NEED a little break, a weekend away to stop and catch my breath before he’s gone again. He agreed. (Smart man, that one.) So, I drained the balance on our travel points and have booked a flight to Victoria where I will meet one of my best friends and we’ll spend the weekend shopping, walking, sipping lattes, and sleeping in at the Empress Hotel.
We will also be the first in line, nerds that we are, to get tickets to see The Hunger Games on opening night.
I am so excited. It feels a little decadent to be going all by myself, but I think I’ve earned it.
Do you know of any exciting places that can’t be missed in Victoria?

Good for you to be going away! We used to live in Victoria and I love it and miss it so much. So many beautiful places. You will be right by the inner harbour and that is a place I loved to go to and just sit by the ocean and watch and listen to the various buskers perform…there is also the big tourist marine boat and seals are always by there. The Beaconhill park is nice and there will be lots of flowers in bloom there-it is near dallas rd- my favourite road as the ocean is right there and you see the huge mountains in Port Angeles US. Make sure you drive the road as it will take you to so many neat areas…you can probably get a driving map at the hotel or across the street at the tourist info centre.
Murchies tea is on Government St and they are world known as is Rogers chocolates across the street. We love the outdoors so we were always hiking and walking in Victoria…tell me the type of things you want to do and I can guide you to places. There are lots of little areas within Victoria that have little cafes and are near the ocean. Oakbay is nice and upscale.
Enjoy…you can definately relax in Victoria!

It is yet another island I do not know (though you should come to this one sometime…) and your decadent plan *almost* makes me green with envy – enjoy it all, lady. You DO deserve it – oh yes, for certain. 🙂
And I will be hitting the theatre for that whole Hunger Games business too. (Man, that series sucked me in like… I dunno what, but all I know is my family HATED me for the 2 weeks I had my nose deep in those books. But, SO SATISFYING!!)
