I’ve always had kind of a love/hate relationship with deoderant. i mean, i get it. sweat + smell = need for something to block sweat and smell. but i’m not a big sweat-er.
there’s only one place i get sweaty. my stomach. i know, repulsive. but it’s true. and they don’t sell antiperspirant for stomachs (i guess it’s just not a popular place for sweat. i know, i’m one of a kind).
but, my point is that i don’t really sweat in my armpits. but i still use deoderant.
i’m actually not sure why. i think it’s because that’s what you are supposed to do. it’s one of those pubescent rites of passage. and i don’t know, even since my mom bought me my first stick of (roll-on – seriously…roll-on? what the hell?) secret, i’ve been wearing it ever since.
but i have yet to find the perfect one. this is where the hot topic portion comes in.
what kind of deoderant do you use? if you’re like me, you’ve bought them all – spray, stick, the click-click kind, maybe even the roll-on. all the brands – secret, soft&dry, teen spirit, dove, suave. all the scents – baby powder, cucumber melon, citrus something or other…
what are you looking for when you buy one? what’s worked the best? worst?
for me, it’s all about keeping my clothing non-white. seriously.
i have an issue. i put on my deoderant, strategically, right after i shower. i do the rest of my getting ready business. i brush my teeth, blow dry my hair, put on my make-up, and then, last, put on my shirt. because no matter what the hell i do – even if i contort my entire body to get the shirt on – i end up with three white lines across my shirt. and if you know me, you know i wear a lot of black. deoderant marks on black shirts = HAWT.
i have learned that pampers baby wipes do a fairly good job at removing the white lines.
has anyone tried Dove Ultimate Clear?
do you remember those commercials with the women turning their shirts inside-out? i wish i had been around when the 7-day challenge promotion was going on – because i did my own little experiment at home and guess what?
um….that’s right….guess who still had white marks????
HELP!

I switch it up all the time. I love the adidas one for working out (because I SWEAT) but it definitely leaves white marks.
A friend of mine swears by the spray stuff though. She sprays it on and then waits about 5 minutes before getting dressed and says that she never gets white marks.
It’s totally aerosol and bad for the environment. I don’t even know where you buy it – I guess Shoppers?
But, I’m addicted to deodorant. I have it at work, in my gym bag, a few at home and a little one for my bigger purses. I don’t think I’m horribly sweaty or smelly, but I’m a little paranoid.

I am just sweaty and smelly if I don’t wear deodorant–there, I admitted it. So, after living in the hot humid hell that is Florida for a few years, I have tried them all. Very few get the job done. I highly reccomend Degree for Women. It is AWESOME! Plus, if you put it on right after you get out of the shower and then do everything else and THEN put on your shirt, you get no white stuff (that is my exact routine except I have to wait to put lipstick on until after the shirt goes on or I risk lipstick on the shirt). It rocks, I love it. I have finally found one that works.

This is so very timely. I just recently started having a “one sweatier armpit” issue and am looking for a good deodorant/antiperspirant.
I can’t even imagine not wearing deodorant! I don’t want to know what would happen or what I would smell like. I HAVE to put my deodorant on right after I get out of the shower or else I might sweat between the shower and getting dressed and won’t be 100% clean 😉 CRAZY.
I too get the white marks no matter what I do to prevent them. Right now I am wearing a women’s Adidas antiperspirant that is the click-click kind and it is OK. It works fine but still one sweatier armpit…weird.

The clear deodorants have never worked for me. I take medication that makes you sweat more (lovely) so I had to buy that OTC prescription strength stuff (can’t remember the name brand of it now..and I use it every day, lol).

I only wear Dove, and I have given up all hope of not having white marks on my shirts. But like you, I’m also not a very sweaty person, so the deoderant is more of a ritual than a need.

okay well i very rarely wear deodorant or anti-perspirant.hardly ever.i mean i’ll put some on if you invite me to your wedding or anniversary but otherwise no..and before you all start gagging i wash under my arms at least twice a day and i don’t sweat too much there.i save my sweating for under my boobs.haha

my personal thought is deodorant is only needed when absolutely necessary or going out for something special. I won’t put any on after showering when I know I’m heading into an icebox of an office with no chance of sweat or heat (or staying at home). Also if you remain regularly shaved/waxed or no hair you may not be as smelly because those hair follicles are the main culprit of hanging on to bacteria which causes odour. It’s ‘normal’ to smell, natural body scent can in fact attract the opposite sex..

Dove usually, Secret if I feel like changing it up a little – ha ha, I’m laughing at myself here…Always white marks, no matter what the brand claims!!! I just deal with it, wipe it off.

I gave up in the white marks a long time ago. I use Secret unscented and it’s not too bad. When I get marks, a damp washcloth seems to get it off the best. Oh, and I sweat under my bubbies.

Little tip I learned when I had to where a black shirt & khaki pants to work EVERYDAY, & inevitably someone would show up with white lines on their shirt. Just rub the shirt together where the white mark is & the white mark goes away! Works well, especially when you don’t have babywipes handy, & definitely works better than water on a cloth.

i have never found one that doesn’t leave white marks – no matter what the product claims. so i usually put it on after i get dressed. or end up washing off the white marks with a cloth….
oh, i use secret platinum in the summer (because it is stronger) and dove in the winter

All I can say is, try putting your shirt on first, THEN the deodorant. I have yet to find one that does not leave those white lines. Especially on black. Lint brushes also work well in removing the lines though.
I personally, use the Lady Speedstick 24/7. Also the fruity smells.

I like the Dove brand. It’s not too smelly strong, “silky” if a deodorant can be such a thing and just plain great.
LoriD says
I’m a Lady Speedstick kind of gal. I choose based on fragrance (I like the fruity ones, so if anyone gets a whiff they might assume it’s my shampoo, not my pits). I always put it on after I get dressed and never have a problem with white marks.

Dove deodorant is THE BEST. Before I got preggers, that’s what I used. Now, because I’m a preggers basket case, I use an all natural one — as you know, it’s not the best sweat barrier — but what is when you’re preggers in THIS HEAT!?
