"Momma, you have two brothers and one sister, right?"
"Yes, Emma, i do."
"And i have one brother and one sister, right?"
i already know exactly where she’s going with this…
"So, that’s not really fair, is it?"
"I don’t know that this has anything to do with fairness, Emily. but do you really want another brother anyway???!!!"
"I guess not. Make it a sister and you’ve got yourself a deal."
i swear she said this. where does she come from???
so…if you’ve been reading for a while, you know that the husband and i have decided to close shop…and my uterus will now become a rocky place where his seed will find no purchase…basically, we are complete. We have three beautiful, healthy, amazing kids. We are happy, we are content, and we are done.
so, my question to all of you out there is…what do you do with all your baby things? do you save them for relatives…or for when company comes over?
i gave away 16 bags of baby clothing. i kept the really nice stuff and gave three containers of clothing to three close friends. i gave my bouncy chair, my infant seat, my swing, and a whole bunch of stuff to my sister-in-law Adina, who is having me a little niece or nephew in November.
but we just ordered Isabella a new big-girl bed.
this is basically what her room looks like. the crib is the same (Morigeau-Lepine 6200 series. love love love) and the armoir and the drawers.
so, since this crib doesn’t turn into a bed, we decided to go with the 6200 series bed…which looks like this, only not in that color, of course:
so, it’s on its way. the bed. the big girl bed. and i’ll be left with her crib. what should i do with it? craigslist? keep it? give it away? i can’t see the point in keeping it because by the time i’d be using it for grandchildren it would be a)100% not safe anymore and b) 100% not in style anymore. also…the fact that i just thought about having grandchildren makes me want to go screaming for the hills.
and what about the high chairs? yes, i did say chairs. i have TWO of them!
adina says
give it to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I’ll take both. Fling ’em down here to California.

My first choice is to give things away…I think it’s good karma. I gave my pack ‘n’ play to a girl who was single, pregnant and didn’t have much money who worked at my nail salon. To this day I feel good about that.
However…having recently unloaded about 4K worth of junk on craigslist, I’m a big fan of that if you could use the extra cash (and who can’t?)
Until the surgery is final and CONFIRMED, do not put baby toys in a box in your attic labeled “for grandchildren”. I have a friend whose surprise after that is now 6!

Forgot to say: the room looks lovely!!! TP has a bed from Freedom Furniture and her wardrobe is from IKEA as is her toy shelf. Not too exciting but I make up for it by using PBK sheets and duvet.

When we decided to de-babify The Princess’ room, I listed all her furniture on ebay: crib, armoire, baby linen, inc curtains, change table, rocking chair, bouncy chair, port-a-cot and I sold it ALL!!!! I delivered a couple of things and the others were picked up. So NO people inspecting prior to purchase and I got a really great price for each of the items. My high chair, by the time TP was done with it, was 5th hand anyway and it had basically crapped itself (have always hated it – Peg one, you know it) and I put it on the curb and voila, someone took it of course.
With clothes, I sell most of the good ones on ebay, donate some to a friend and send the rest of the good ones to Toronto to my BFF.
If the high chairs are in good condition, try ebaying or donate them, that’s what I would do.
Heather says
Sell it. Or, if you are feeling generous, give it away to a soon to be mom who just cannot afford a crib.

truly, there are women’s shelters for women and children trying to escape violent husbands in DESPERATE need of baby equippment. They run on such little funds, I always foun they were sooo grateful for people to donate baby furniture which is really expencive for them to buy. There are also ‘new to Canada’ initiatives that give equippment to refugee families that have nothing.
Let me know if you need the name of a women’s shelter in York Region. There are a couple really great ones who would be thrilled to be able to house another baby if they have an extra crib – yes it is that dire!

That line — “my uterus will now become a rocky place where his seed will find no purchase” — is freaking CLASSIC!
We just sold a bunch of stuff on Craigslist. Furniture. It was kind of frustrating — and people we didn’t know came to our house. But, we got rid of a couch and some bookshelves pretty quickly. there are also some furniture stores that buy used stuff…. Your sister in law doesn’t need your crib??

What is Craiglist? must google…I sold a lot of stuff at a garage sale this summer but I do have TONS of baby clothes, which I have no idea why I’m keeping. They are just so precious & you never know. My youngest in still in the crib but the timimg may be perfect to give it to my best friend who is due in the Spring.
Jen says
Try Craigslist or EBay. You might make a buck or two. The other stuff, give away. There are so many needy families who would definitly love some lightly used toys, etc.
Laural says
That’s a tough call. I think the cheaper stuff that takes up room give away. The more expensive stuff sell on Craig’s list.
My crib has been used by my sister and a friend. As has my swing. I think when I’m done I’m just going to give stuff away for free.
But … your crib – I would craigslist it. It’s gorgeous!
