here we go again

March 13, 2012 by Christine

I’ve written in the past about Cuyler’s issues with weather.

Each spring I am always hopeful that this will be the year he overcomes the fear that the rainy weather brings with it. I know it will happen. I just don’t know when.
I know that it’s not quite right now. It’s very early in the season but I feel we are closer as he seems to be managing better.
Now that the-winter-that-never-was seems to be over, this gorgeous mild weather we’ve been getting is bringing with it anxiety for Cuyler. He knows that in winter it’s too cold for thunder. Warm weather means that it can thunder.
Yesterday was wet and rainy. I could tell he was a little anxious as he peeked out the windows throughout the day. He would ask periodically if it was going to thunder.
He started whining at dinner last night to go for a ride. It was his safety in the past and we got into a bad habit of placating him.
Not this year. We said “No way dude”
He took it in stride and instead went up and had a shower to distract him (that’s his other safety – he can’t hear rain or thunder in the shower).

Much to our surprise the rest of the night went super easy.

As I do each night, I went in and checked each kid before I hit the hay and found Cuyler sound asleep, ready for anything.

His dvd player and noise cancelling headphones were there if he needed them.
So far we haven’t had any thunder. I’m anxious to get the first storm under our belts. It will give us a better idea of what we will be dealing with all spring and summer.
I am hoping that Mother Nature is kind to us. She can make it rain all she wants but it would be much appreciated if thunder storms are few and far between this year.

I’ve got my fingers crossed for you, lady – I hope for sunny skies and breezy evenings… 😉
