Have a Seat

July 26, 2012 by Amanda

“Steve, look what I found online! Two used Natuzzi leather couches for an awesome price! They’re in great shape and would look so good in our house! These are going to go fast, I just know it. I should phone right now!” I called out with excitement.

He then proceeded to take a dump on my dreams and basically explain how he felt we didn’t “need” new couches right now, how the kids would just trash them, etc, etc.
I was choked. And I let him know.
After a lengthy conversation he conceded and agreed that it would be fine, that I could call. By that time it was too late to call so I’d have to wait until the morning. Which I did. The seller told me that someone was ahead of me in line, and was going to come look at them later that day. He’d call me if they didn’t buy them.
Lo and behold, they got scooped up by the buyer who had called first. I missed out, and I was ticked because I knew that if I had been able to call the previous night the couches would have been MINE.
“Steve, some SCHMUCK beat me to the couches. Told you,” I huffed.
Then I let it go.
Kind of.
Okay, not at all.
Months passed and I had finally almost forgotten the sofas. Then we went away for our anniversary night and when I came home and walked up the stairs, I saw this:

The couches! The ones I had been dreaming of. My husband was the SCHMUCK who beat me to them, who hid them in our garage for months and somehow held onto that delicious secret without so much as a smirk every time I lamented how I had missed out on them.
They are perfect. Thanks, Steve! This one goes down in history as the greatest heist yet.
