One of my favourite things to do in the kitchen is doctor up the kids’ meals to make them mom and dad friendly. Sometimes that means taking a classic and bastardizing it a little. As Homer Simpson said “Mmm.. sacralicious”.
One of our go to meals on lazy weekends is the grilled cheese sandwich. What I usually like to do is get the kids sandwiches out of the way and then focus on a grown up version of the classic for my own lunch.
If I’m not feeling very adventurous this could be something as simple as a slice of tomato and onion. There are some days though where I throw pretty much everything but the kitchen sink in there just to see how it’ll turn out. Fried onion, coleslaw and Gruyère grilled cheese? Why not. Roasted pepper, horseradish and aged cheddar? Go for it!
Another favourite I love is doctoring the kids mac ‘n cheese with some Frank’s Red Hot sauce… Mmm…. Are there any dinners you make both kid & adult friendly versions?

last week I threw all cheeses into my homemade mac and cheese- wheel of boursin, fresh parmesan, mozzarella, feta , a heel of gruyere and some sharp cheddar. I added some sauteed shallots (love) and a bit of dijon
heaven

Bolognese sauce. I doctor it up with some red wine reduction and add a bit of chili and Tabasco and marjoram. Yum!
