Let’s just classify this as the TMI entry. When I think about it there are maybe three things about me that I’m not willing to share with you my blog reading friends. A girl has to have some secrets, right?
But I need your advice on this one. So last week, we talked about Gisele and her ridiculousness around breastfeeding. I told you that I was fortunate enough to breastfeed. I really loved it. And the boy did too apparently since he maybe took one bottle in his short life – he went from boob to sippy cup. Even at the height of my postpartum when I had a night nurse, he refused. I would spend any time that he was napping during the day trying to pump a bottle so I could sleep through the night but nope, he’d wait it out and by 4am when he could no longer stand it and Nadia had tried every trick in the book, he’d latch on and give me the ‘haha Mama, I SO won’ look.
So for fifteen months, I was a slave to his eating habits. But I didn’t mind.
I stopped breastfeeding almost ten months ago. But….someone forgot to let my boobs in on the message because I’m STILL producing milk!!! WTF?!?! Maybe I should pull a Salma Hayek on go on a peace keeping mission to Africa and help to feed the babies there. If you’re wodering if I sit around randomly squeezing my own boobs to check this out – I assure you, I’m not. Will bit me on the boob on the weekend while we were wrestling and I thought ‘hmmm I wonder’ and gave her a squeeze. You want a double/double? Pass the cup over!
Can someone tell me if this is normal? I have to tell you, part of me wonders if this is why I’ve shelved dating for awhile. I mean picture being in the heat of passion and … you get the picture…AWKWARD!
When and how will this end?? Hopefully not like this…

OMG! That clip gave me the heebie jeebies. **shudder**
In my opinion this is worth mentioning to your doctor. It sounds like it is likely fine but still, better safe than sorry.
And I, like Christine, would like to know your 3 secrets too please. It will torture me 😉

Aww, yes, I do believe I continued to produce breast milk for about a year after weening each of my two older children… I am currently breastfeeding my third (and final…lol) child, he just turned a yr old last week… oh the joys… lol

Happy Milking….that made me laugh!

Yes, Yes, and YES!! You and your boobs are normal! ;-)…Well I can guaranty the boob/milk issue is anyways.
I counsel Breastfeeding moms every day and I’ve seen it time and time again. I know of a mom that had a miscarriage in her first trimester and started producing milk for the next 3+ years . Estrogen will kill your milk supply, so if you are really concerned about it, you could talk to your OB/GYN about taking the pill for couple of months or something like that.
Now that said, I know of a mom that is nursing her 3 year old and had NO milk what so ever.
Just goes to show how different we all are, even when it comes to the same thing.
Happy Milking!

Lol this was freaking hysterical!!!
And yes it is normal!! I never leaked but I was actual able to extract “milk” or fluid whatever the heck it was even after my last born turned 4!! I know right!!!! WEIRD!
As your hormones start to regulate again (and sadly that can take time…up to a whole year) it should start to subside!
Good luck! 😉

happened to me on and off for a LONG time after I finished nursing. I can STILL get a “let-down reflex” on occasion – and I’ve already been through menopause!!! Just one of those things, I guess! Nothing I ever worried about – maybe I should have?? Google, here I come!
Susannah says
Hey Ya
When in doubt blame it on hormones- I do.
Have you googled it?

out of curiosity before my 2nd was born i tried to see if they still worked and yup! a year and a half later out it came! i wouldn’t worry about the ‘heat of passion’ tho’. in the dark could be sweat! 🙂
Christine says
Peeing my pants laughing at the clip!! I’ve seen other Bitty clips but hadn’t seen that one.
As far as lactation – I think I was still producing about a year after I weaned Eva -she was also 15 months. Boys were each nursed for a year. I got pregnant with Cam while I was still nursing, but with Cuy my milk dried up within a few months. But by then I had been producing milk for almost 3years.
And now I really wanna know the 3 secrets that you’re keeping…
Sara says
oh nooo….that sounds awful. You know the crazy thing? I never leaked – wasn’t an overproducer or anything…yet, here I am!
Luschka @ Diary of a First Child says
Lol! That’s disgustingly hysterical! And I still breastfeed! Oh dear –
I don’t think it’s ‘usual’, but I do know a woman who still leaks whenever a baby cries (on the bus, in town, etc). She’s almost 50 and hasn’t breastfed in 20 years!
