It’s Sectionals! and everyone should be excited, except that, well, nothing seems right.
Kurt is playing for the other team, only he is discovering that being a Warbler might not be a glamorous as he’d originally thought and hoped. Like the actual bird that the newest Warbler is required to babysit…there must be a little molting. Even though pretty much every single person in the show tells Rachel how much no one likes her, her moments with Kurt were heartwarming and real. Even from the audience where she reminds him to smile up there on the stage. And even when she talks to Kurt about imagining her own funeral.
Santana drops the bomb that she and Finn hooked up and he bought her dinner afterwards. Obviously everyone knew…Santana tells Puck who tells Quinn who tells Mercedes who tells Kurt. Of course. Rachel retaliates against the Santana of it all and makes out with Puck (oh, Puckleberry.) which leads to a dramatic end-of-episode breakup and Rachel retiring her famous Finn necklace. Ouch.
Emma tries to get Mr. Schue to mix up the same old, same old by giving Sam and Quinn the leads and by showcasing Mike Chang and Brittany’s dancing. Even Santana gets a unexpectedly good solo. And even though Sectionals is “light on the Mercedes” they manage to squeeze out a ticket to Regionals.
Brittany misunderstands the meaning of adultery which really should surprise no one since she believes that crickets read to her at night and steal her jewelry and she believes in magic combs. But no…she’s not cheating on Artie. And Mike Chang isn’t cheating on Tina and they make up by Asian kissing.
Emma drops the bomb that not only was she in Vegas with the finest dentist in the world, but they hastily got married. Honestly, this was more disturbing to me than the tie. Really? That doesn’t exactly seem like an Emma-like move, does it?
New Directions is going in a new direction. I probably need to stop trying to understand it and just sit back and enjoy the music.
