Do your kids latch on to favourite television shows or movies or characters and then you have to live with the blaring theme songs in your mind for the next six months straight? Yeah, mine too.
When Avelyn hit the 18-month mark she happened to catch an episode of “Arthur” and it was the beginning of a deep, enduring love affair.
Before long, the only thing she agreed to watch was “Arthur” and I found myself scouring the internet for DVDs of past seasons just to help her get her fix. Her obsession with “Arthur” lasted well over a year and I always thought it a bit strange since it was such a mature choice. Since then she’s moved onto several other stages of fixation with her movie choices: there was the “Barbie” movie phase, the “Charlie and Lola” era, and the intense, but short-lived fascination with “Blue’s Clues.”
Karenna hasn’t been nearly as interested in TV and movies as her older sister but has recently become fully addicted to the Disney “Tarzan” movies and there have been days where she’s watched one of them eight six too embarrassed to type the truthful number three times in a row. The Phil Collins soundtrack is actually pretty catchy and it’s a nice break from the princess scene. Go, Tarzan!
What are/were your kids’ favourite shows to watch?

I’ve documented Will’s ongoing Wiggles obsession here. THankfully we’re moving on to Sesame Street which I really love as well. I have caved to the purple dinosaur – but it is few and far between!!!!!!!!

Brooklyn LOVED Dora for the longest time and then there was Martha Speaks. She doesn’t watch many kiddie shows anymore thanks to her older sisters watching their shows on the disney channel. She also watched the movie Spirit more times than I can count in her “I am a horse phase”. To tell you the truth, I miss hearing the songs from those little shows during the day. I almost put it on the other day just for old times sake!!!

This is what we hear all the time, ‘Yellow Man please mum’ or ‘more Yellow Man’. Curious George is a big hit but what he really loves is the man with the yellow hat. That or ‘ELMOS WORLD’. I never encouraged any of it but one time viewing got him hooked.
