I recently met a woman, let’s call her Jess, who is a single mom just fresh out of a divorce. Something about her hit me really hard. A mom, who stayed home and did everything for her family. Well, you know what happens next, her husband took off. Jess was then left to fend for herself so to speak. I looked at her with shock and awe. She now has to reinstate herself into the workforce after being out for 15 years. She was, what society considered in a middle-income family and living a comfortable life. No designer threads and family road trips were the norm. But now, left on her own with two kids and she needs to work. And she needs professional work clothes. I went into my closet and dug out a couple of tailored classic suits.
Get F-listed in support of Dress for Success
Fast forward to today, I received an email from Leesa Butler who founded the F-list, a fashion blogger who has pulled together a very impressive online auction called “F-Listed” in support of DRESS FOR SUCCESS.
“Dress for Success Toronto is such a positive force, helping people to support themselves and their families. They provide an invaluable service that gives people dignity. I wanted to support and raise awareness about that,” said Leesa Butler.
I wish I had remembered Dress for Success for this woman. But this is the thing, our lives are all so very busy and we are constantly bombarded with requests to donate or participate. However, this hit close to home for me. And I will participate in this.
