I was at the place the rhymes with Sinners the other day, and while perusing the shoe section, I came across this pair of Coach sandals. In silver. And they were a neat size 5 1/2. I slipped them on, and decided they were quite good, but balked at the price: $99.99.
Now, they’re Coach, so I get it. But… aaaaack. ACK!
I carried them around the store, hemming and hawing all the while, and then decided I should just take them home to think about them, since they’d certainly be gone-baby-gone if I put them down again. If you snooze? You lose. I’m not gonna lie – I’ve shed a tear or two over items I regretted leaving behind in the past. Did I need a pair of sandals? Yes. Would a metallic be wonderful? Certainly. Is Coach awesome or what? Oh hells to the YES! But…. aaaaack. ACK!
I do so love a bargain, but indeed, this was not one. What can I say? Sometimes a girl takes leave of her faculties… but I’m back. And so are the sandals, safely returned to the shoe shelf at the store.
I needed something for daily wearing, that would go with a lot of my stuff AND suit my everyday lifestyle, which mostly required schlepping to the grocery store, to schools and camp and parks… some that feel good and don’t look terrible.
I opted for a pair of Havaianas in a light gold colour instead. They really are what I need, and I know I’m late to this beach party, but they’re the most comfortable shoes of this kind I’ve ever worn. I’m in the mood for gold tones this summer, I think. And anyway, they’re a fraction of the cost of the other.
Yes, I realise these two companies are WORLDS apart… but still.
With the difference saved, I bought these cognac-coloured peep-toed sling-backs (top of page) instead which really do read as nude on my feet – I bet I’ll get lots of wear out of them. Lovely with dark jeans, but they’ll look terrific on some white wide-leg white trousers or linen pants, or with a white dress. (Note to self: go buy some white clothes to wear with new shoes.)
If the silver sandals had been $60, I would have bought them for sure, but I’m just not down with spending $100 on flip-flops – I don’t care whose name is on them – that’s just too damn much. I mean, c’mon now.
