I’m heading downtown today. I’ve got stuff to do, and I’m taking myself out for lunch – and I’m actually going to sit down to eat it. I’m not dressed up – I’m just wearing what I own.
I mean, really – if you have stuff you like, but you don’t actually put them on… then exactly WHAT are you WAITING FOR?!

Sucks to be between sizes – you need a good tailor (or the drycleaner people) to take stuff in for you, so they actually fit well (belt or no belt.) And get extra HOLES in the belt too…
Oh, you know what? I think you need to come here and style me out of my closet for a segment on this blog! Yes, that’s what we should do.
Hmm, perhaps if I figure it out to my satisfaction – and ever line up a camera at the same time and place as myself. (Yeah, I *never* take pictures so Ill have to enlist some help!) Also think one of them might be too big – have to go see if I can find the size smaller at another store, because I’m not sure. I seem to be right on the cusp of 2 sizes, which sucks. The smaller size fits at waist, but jeans don’t sit at my waist, they sit at my hips, so if I want to wear it with a dress, it’s one thing, and… yeah. I’m trying. (This is why I love shoes – so much easier).

btw, you are busy inspiring me over here, and I bought two – 2!! – belts today. I *never* wear belts, but I bought one to try with your quarter-tuck trick, and one that I think will go well with dresses. maybe. i’ll have to find a moment to commune with my closet and try that one out.
It was a pretty good pick, Alice – Le Chateau has some great pieces… they upped their game about 5 years ago or so, and there are some better quality items available now. Their jackets/blazers fit pretty well. (I know what you mean about those unflattering box-shapes = bad!)
We DID!! Just today, it seems… I roasted by the end of the day. Summer is always my bane season – Im lost without jeans, really I am… but I try to rock cute blouses. And I went shopping today…!!
Girl, I am IN LOVE with that jacket. Usually the bracelet-length jackets go with a boxy shape that is NOT flattering on me, but this one is beautifully tailored. It’s a good thing you live in another city, or I’d be breaking into your closet to swipe that!

Julie, you just have to put on what you like to wear, and find a way to wear it differently – with different shoes, or pants, or with a flower… I swear, I dont spend much on my clothes, and my closets arent busting at the seams either – I just try to find what I know works for me, without being too trendy… I love it when I can wear stuff for a while. (Ive had that jacket for about 3 years, I think… still looks okay, and for $75-ish, I think it was a good buy – but I hadnt paired it with those shoes until this spring. MAGIC!)

i am beginning to have a love/hate relationship with your column! you always look awesome with stuff from your fabulous closet with stuff you own or can get for really not much and then i look in my closet and decide to wear the pants without holes.
