It’s been a crazy few days over here in Toronto. First the earthquake – yes I felt it..it was nuts my chair was shaking, book shelf shaking..I thought it was a bomb! Yesterday I had some crazy small world stuff happening and then….the runaway car.
I’m working from home the last couple days because of the G20 and the potential insanity. Yesterday just after noon, I heard a scream on the street and ran to the window. Here’s what I saw…
Car going diagonally across the street….
Woman running alongside it….
Car jumping the curb, hitting the sapling in front of my house, coming towards my house….
Car veers, goes into neighbours flower beds and comes to a stop just in front of their window.
WTF?!?!?!?!?!??!!? I ran down the stairs and out the door to see the woman jump in, reverse back OVER the sapling and drive down the sidewalk and around the corner. I just stood there slack jawed.
Then the woman came running back apologizing to me for hitting my house. I sort of snapped. I just yelled at her that it wasn’t my house but that she was effing lucky that my kid, or any of the other 100 kids on my street weren’t out playing or she would have been screwed.
Was she drunk? Nope. Was she a moron? Basically. Her excuse was that her friends kid in the backseat started yelling so she thought she had caught her finger in the door so she jumped out of the car to check and didn’t put the car in park. Okay. Now read that sentence again and count to yourself the number of ridiculous statements it contains.
The important thing was that no one was hurt. And I learned that sapling trees are like weebles….they may wobble but they won’t fall down! I also learned that I become a mamma bear when there’s a chance my kid could have been hurt. He was safely in daycare and I became a screaming banshee.
Stay tuned for next week…..Ryan Parker from the Q107 morning show and I are co-writing a blog about playground etiquette…AND I’ll report on my weekend – eight kids under the age of 9 and their mommies. Is there enough wine in the province to get us through?
Christine says
Yikes. Glad it was ok in the end (moronic tree jumper)
Guess you didn’t get to tan with all the rain we got…did you at least get to drink?
Sara says
I’m just sort of hoping that their kids will play with mine….so I can just tan and have a beer…
