I recently read the results of a study that appeared in a Centers for Disease Control (CDC) publication, showing that one in seven household kitchens would fail the kind of cleanliness standards applied to restaurants. The self-assessment questionnaire had 13,000 participants and noted that if homes were put to the test and given a grade, only 34 per cent would receive and A and 14 per cent would earn a C.
After reading that I looked around at my own white cupboards and counters and wondered about some of the unidentifiable crumbs and stains I could see, and immediately googled “homemade kitchen counter spray”.
For the past couple of months I’ve had an old spray container of water and vinegar under my sink and I periodically spray my counters to disinfect. The key word is “periodically” because when this is what your kitchen counter spray looks like you tend to want to forget about it.
This baby met the low price criteria (practically no $$$) and was easy to come by, but it wasn’t pretty enough to leave out on the counter, and having my kitchen smell like the local Fish and Chips place was not enough to persuade me to spray regularly.
Enter Eva & Ella’s Counter Spray. One of the newest lines from Upper Canada Soaps, this is part of a new collection of home scents. The key here is that the products are so attractive, they’re meant to become part of your home decor. The bottles resemble glass, but are made with premium plant-based ingredients. There are four fragrances and my kitchen currently smells like Chamomile Lavendar, but I’m also looking forward to smelling Cinnamon Orange and Honey Tea.
This Counter Spray is $9 for a 500 mL bottle, so it falls in the high price category of today’s comparison, but really, there’s no comparison. Because when my kitchen counter spray looks like this it actually gets left out on the counter and used regularly. With its blend of Tea Tree and Grapeseed extracts it’s full of antibacterial and odour eliminating power, so it’s environmentally friendly and it actually works.
The line also includes hand wash, hand lotion, and dish soap, and if you invite me over during the holidays, chances are I’ll be bringing some of these products as hostess gifts. You can pick up the full line of Eva & Ella products in gift shops and department stores across Canada.
In the interest of full disclosure, Trend Watch is written by me; all opinions are my own. It is not sponsored. Sometimes I am given free products to review and sometimes I purchase the products all on my own. In this case, I was given a sample bottle of Eva & Ella’s Kitchen Counter Spray for review.
