Have I ever told you about the humiliating visit my kids had to their orthodontist last year? First he asked me when I was due with my fourth child (I wasn’t) and in the ultimate Freudian slip he referred to my middle son as “also mentally retarded like his older brother”, when I swear he called my eldest “dentally retarded” just minutes earlier. Sigh….we all left that appointment with our egos bruised, and I went home and burned the tunic I’d been wearing.
Today we’re looking at toothbrushes, and I’ve been test driving a couple for your consideration.
The High
Oral-B Vitality Sensitive Clean Toothrush
It promises advanced sonic technology to remove plaque and stains. It retails for about $25 and is available at drugstores across the country.
The Low
Ye olde hand powered Colgate toothbrush
Does the trick and retails for about $5. Available at drugstores across the country.
The Verdict
Had I written this post a week ago, I’d have suggested you save that $20 and treat yourself to a nice lipgloss to show off your gorgeous smile. However, I went out of town last week and had to pack and use my Colgate toothbrush for the first time in a month. Guys, my arm was soooo tired from having to recreate the brushing motion that I’d been taking for granted from my Braun powered brush.
OK, I kid….I’m not so spoiled that I can’t manually brush for 2 minutes twice a day, but I did miss that squeaky clean feeling post-Oral B brush. It comes very close to recreating the “dentist clean” sensation that makes 60 minutes of scraping worthwhile.
So, don’t rush out and replace a perfectly good brush that you’re using now, but do forego the lipgloss, save the $20 and get yourself an Oral-B the next time you’re in the market. How’s that…sound fiscal and dental advice in one post…now who’s dentally retarded?
In the interest of full disclosure, Trend Watch is written by me; all opinions are my own. It is not sponsored. Sometimes I am given free products to review and sometimes I purchase the products all on my own. I was given a free Oral-B Vitality Toothbrush, but was not compensated for this post. The Colgate toothbrush was all my own!
