As you know, we never feature a product in Cool Products & Stuff unless it gets the urbanmoms.ca Go2Girlz seal of approval. In September, selected members of the Go2Girlz had the opportunity to test a new product from Food Trust PEI – pre-cooked mashed potatoes.

Now, you may be thinking ‘huh? Pre-cooked mashed potatoes?’, and you’d be among good company if you were. Most of our testers had the same reaction when they received their samples. But it only took three minutes to dispel any question marks they may have had, and the results are unanimous: this product is a winner!

Every one of our testers said they would buy Food Trust PEI pre-cooked mashed potatoes again, and would also recommend the product to a friend. That’s high praise indeed! As you can imagine, one of the features the Go2Girlz liked best was the ease and speed of preparation. Simply pop them in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes, and you’ve got a delicious side dish. Also very important to our testers, though, was the quality and origin of the ingredients. No strange chemicals or preservatives on the ingredient list – just foods you can feel good about putting on your family’s plate, and likely the same things you’d put in your own homemade mashed potatoes: fresh, hand-picked PEI potatoes, cream, butter and salt.

To our Go2Girlz families, taste was the number one feature. All the kids (picky eaters included) and dads loved the taste and creamy consistency. Several moms reported that their children and partners either couldn’t tell the difference between Food Trust PEI potatoes and Mom’s homemade, or else preferred them to homemade. Several testers also reported comments from their families that they preferred the smooth and creamy consistency to mom’s “lumpy potatoes”. And Kate, Go2Girlz member and mom of 2 reports, “I am forbidden from making homemade mashed potatoes anymore now that my family have tried this product. Fine by me!!!”
