I was a teen in the 80’s (see proof in the pic to the left). I spent my youth listening to what is now considered "retro" or "classic" – ouch. Of course, I moved on as did music but sometimes I am reminded of my wonderfully amazing and confusing coming of age years. I am thrown back in a time warp through a smell (Body Shop White Linen perfume), taste (Canada Coolers…ugh), or a song. Just the other day this very experience happened when reading my friend Idas’ blog. She mentioned a song in one of her posts that I used to LOVE but I hadn’t hear in years.
That song is True by Spandau Ballet. Oh, the teen angst. Check out a few of my faves and the memories that go with them and please share yours in the comments below.
Strangely, I remember this one most because it is a great tune and it was around the time my "little" sister had her first major crush. INXS, Never Tear Us Apart.
My first boyfriend broke up with me and I "consoled" myself with this tune. I shoulda had a party…the guy was a TOTAL a-hole. Sinead O’Connor, Nothing Compares 2 U. (ignore the subtitles)
This is one of my ALL TIME FAVES. It is the song I was obsessed with when I became obsessed with my now husband. LOVE. Brings back all those tingly, giddy new love feelings. Yaz (or Yazoo), Only You. (the video is kinda creepy-weird but it was the early days of video so forgive…)

Ohhhhhh, how wonderful. That was my ‘crush’ and I still get that feeling listening to it even though I barely remember the guy – hehe. I also remember playing over and over again ‘Somebody’ by Depeche Mode dreaming about the wonderful man I wanted to meet. Thankfully I have met him and still love that song.

Oh my G.. I don’t know if this brings good or just strange memories. I must admit that Alphaville also brings me back memories… ski vacation… and …!! Those songs are really old and it seems so far away for me.

Only You was the first song at our wedding, except we did the Flying Pickets, a capella version.
I also remember “Missing You” by John Waite, associated with a high school crush.
“Walking on Sunshine” by Katrina and the Waves was our party song!
I also loved “Song for Whoever” by The Beautiful South. I can listen to almost anything from them and feel nostalgic.

Wow. Where to start? I’d have to say one that is really sticking with me is “Blasphemous Rumours” by Depeche Mode. And “If You Leave” by OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark…that name inspired a few teenage-girl giggles, for sure!)

I’m a bit older than you two so for me it was, Two Outta Three aint Bad by Meatloaf, Don’t Give Up On Us Baby, David Soul, Lionel Richie – You Are- and something I have never admitted in public until now…Endless Love (weeped for days when my Grade 11 boyfriend dumped me on my birthday, which we celebrated on Valentine’s Day – for ski bunnies)

Oh my!! I remember that girl in the first pic….she was so cool!!! But then again everything that my “three girl” cousins did was cool, & everything I did was (to me anyway) tragically uncool!!
I have vivid memories of pink, blue, yellow, green (you name the colour I’m sure they had it) striped Ralph Lauren Polo shirts. We all wore them, girls & boys.
Love all of those songs. Nothing Compares 2 U makes me recall my first boyfriend too, but luckily he wasn’t an a-hole, just not right (thankfully).
A couple other songs that really bring back the memories for me are Forever Young by Alphaville, Reflex by Duran Duran, & anything on the George Michael Faith album.
