But, until I am ready for that I will give you what you REALLY want to see first…the fashion winners and losers, obviously.

I don’t feel that Ricky Gervais said anything controversial. It would be like a stranger telling me that i am fat, i may not like it, but it happens to be true . I find it absolutely amazing that in a country with all manner of filth on the radio and television we choose to be offended by a few jokes by Ricky Gervais…amazing .

I agree with your choices — I can’t believe the awful colour that Angie was wearing – icky!
Also another haughty looked icky — what the hell was Scarlett thinking — obviously Ryan Reynolds saw that hair and the dress and bolted : )
Loved Catherine Zeta Jones dress — the colour was stunning and she is such a beautiful women!

I didn’t love the 80s thing going on, either, though I did think both Anne and Angelina carried it off as well as anyone could, they are gorgeous, but still. Meh.
I LOVED Olivia Wilde’s dress – who wouldn’t? – and the colour on Kyra. I didn’t like the texture on CZJ’s dress, which I thought made it look too heavy and carpety, though the colour was gorgeous and she can carry off pretty much anything, she’s so amazing.
January Jones, good gravy, I’m pretty sure she isn’t short-waisted and thick, but that dress cuts her up enough to make it look that way. Not doing her any favours, let’s say. Michelle Williams looked lovely – from the neck up. And I think Joan Rivers was right on, god help me, when she said Leighton Meester looked like a glammed-up sister wife. ScarJo’s dress was too old for her, too, but I loved Natalie Portman’s maybe BECAUSE of the rose that everyone has been carrying on about.

So funny Sarah how we are complete opposites! See….I know that Emma Stone is a natural blonde and that she’s blonde right now for a movie role…but I REALLY only like her when she’s a redhead. It really suits her and makes her stand out. Her blonde hair just sort of fades into her face and really washes her out, I think!

    I LOVED Anne Hathaway’s dress! Also, I loved Angelina’s.
Claire Danes=meh. I don’t love Calvin Klein on the red carpet for events- it always looks too simple for me. I think Emma Stone was wearing Calvin Klein as well. That being said, she’s a pretty blonde.

Didn’t watch it – but love the commentary!!!

I really loathe the shoulder pads and severe look- these are uber beauties and sometimes I think they forget they should wear the dress and not let the dress wear them
Helena- I enjoy because she is original and very F U Hollywood – it takes courage to be nuts and avoid hair brushing for so long.
I loved the daisy dress and the pixie cut. Fresh and new.
I am sorry to say that I wanted Clare danes to stuff a little. Her non existent bosom was a little tragic for me- but I love her shade of pink
I want the sparkly ballerina gown. Now.

All those shoulder pads were a bit too pointy and “Dynasty” for my liking. That trend can go back in the “Cameo” Costume Closet where they belong, thanks.

Helena Bohman’s shoes don’t even match.

Love Olivia’s gown, but what’s with Tim, I mean Helena, and 2 different shoes??

I actually think she’s a fabulous actress. She was GREAT in Fight Club. And Big Fish!

    “The WTFHBCTIADBBEABR” – ROFLMAO!
I have a friend (Laura) who said, “maybe that’s what happens when you marry Tim Burton: you turn into a character from one of his movies.” Too true!
That was one of the things I liked best about The King’s Speech: seeing HBC actually ACTING, instead of over-acting and letting the wardrobe do all the work. She was fabulous as the Queen Mother.

From the few people I heard comment on Emma’s dress, the sentiment was that she really captured the new minimalist trend. Honestly I think the silhouette of the dress was stunning. EW had a great pic of it here: http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20327336_20458227_20899648,00.html
I’m totally with you though on the bizarre shoulder pads trend. I can take the 40s style with shoulder pads, but 80s Dynasty-chic?!? Blech!!

I was waiting for your review??
If we switched Anne Hathaway with Claire Danes….I’d be right on with you.
I loved Anne – even with the pads.
I loathed Emma Stone – she could have been so fun.
And please, could January Jones stop trying – ARGH.
What about the Sofia woman from modern family….loved.
and even though I hater her dress – I was SO happy for Katie Segal – I ran around my room yelling – for real.

  15. Ali says

    Really, Margot?
My friends and I – from the second she came on the red carpet…were all, REALLY EMMA? a tube sock? a tshirt dress? i thought – regardless of the color – that it was AWFUL. and she’s so lovely…she could have done way better than this.

  16. Margot says

    January 17, 2011 at 5:23 pm

That is a seriously terrible pic of Emma Stone. The pic does no justice to the actual colour of the dress. I think she looked fab on tv. The blond hair is pretty terrible, but something she really does have to work around for the Spidey role.
Loved Claire Danes, I thought she was best dressed, hands down.
Michelle Williams was a vision of beauty…from the neck up. That dress was just not red carpet appropriate.

  17. Amreen says

Anne Hathaway was my fave, even with the shoulder pads (helllooo Dynasty! Doesn’t that totally look like a Krystle Carrington dress…she’s totally channelling Linda Evans and I love it!)
I like the Zeta and Lea Michele. I liked J.Lo too, though I think I’m in the minority. Do you think that Tim Burton makes HBC dress like that? Makes you seriously wonder about their home life.
I thought Helen Mirren and Jane Fonda looked great. How is JF 70?? I liked Hailee Steinfeld too, and Mila Kunis too.
I thought Natalie Portman’s speech was bizarre, Robert De Niro was seriously nuts. I thought Ricky Gervais was hilarious and RDJ a darling.

YES. As I said on twitter:
If I can see YOUR MOUND, your dress is not red carpet appropriate.

  19. Amanda says

I loved Claire Danes’ choice. She has such a beautiful figure and I think her dress showed it off, but not in a “look at my private parts!” kind of way (like January Jones…gah!). I also loved the deep green gowns that Catherine Zeta Jones and Peggy Olson (don’t know her real name) picked. So rich and lovely.

re: Kyra. I think she always look age-appropriate and I think she wears what works for her. I applaud her for knowing and for not wearing dresses that are so tight that i can see where the spank ends.

    January 17, 2011 at 4:09 pm

Um. Kyra Sedgewick needs to pick another style…maybe not so hippy-dippy-flyaway? It seems she’s been rocking the flippie sleeves for quite awhile now…

I agree about the shoulder pads. Horrible!

  23. Laura says

    January 17, 2011 at 3:48 pm

Emma Stone looked TERRIBLE. Horrible dress, and horrible hair colour. January Jones did not disappoint me, yet again she is on the worst dressed list. I thought Helen Mirren looked GORGEOUS, it was too bad Annette Benning didn’t have time to have her hair done, and Angelina Jolie stole Betty White’s dress. Seriously, could she have looked more matronly? Is she trying to cover up how skinny she is? I also wasn’t sure about all her PDA with Brad, was that real or putting on a show?
My favourite part of the night (besides the fashion) was Ricky Gervais…he was brilliant.

I think Kathryn Z Jones looks like she’s on the set for Gone with the Wind. The first one, girl from Glee, sorry don’t know her name, looks amazing. Lea Michelle also looked good.

  26. Ali says

    January 17, 2011 at 3:20 pm

Honestly, I probably would have LOVED Anne’s dress had it not been for the off-putting shoulder pads…

  27. Suebob says

    January 17, 2011 at 3:16 pm

Not feeling the red dress – it makes a skinny woman look like she has a fat roll, and it is a little too “OMG I am so daring with my breasts LOOK AT ME.”
Anne Hathway looked amazing. And Angelina? WHY? She looks like the mother of the bride, and not in a good way.
