Fabulous Birthday Weekend

May 30, 2011 by erinlittle

I had a marvelous weekend, marvelous.  It was a two BBQ weekend.

As you may have gathered from the title of this post, it was my birthday on Saturday.
May 28th is also National Multiple Births day, the date was chosen because it is the Dionne Quintuplets birthday.  To celebrate, our local chapter, Temiskaming Multiple Births, had a family BBQ.  It was great fun to see all the twins (none of the triplet families made it out) playing together.  It’s also nice to talk to the other parents who know what it’s like to raise twins.  Twins at the gathering ranged from 6 months old to 19 years old.  You should have seen the tug of war show downs!  At one point it was the baby A’s against the baby B’s (twin pregnancy terminology) and the B’s came out victorious.
Here’s a shot of my girls at the party (baby A on the left, B on the right).  It was windy and cold, but great fun.

Then yesterday, our friends Amanda & Drew, hosted a birthday BBQ in their home.  They are fairly new friends and I really enjoy their company.  They have similar values and ideas vis a vis sustainable living and parenting.  I often feel like the parenting odd ball so it’s nice to be around people who have similar parenting practices.
All the kids at the party played really well together, running around outside for hours (it was MUCH warmer on Sunday) and then playing quietly inside (yup, quietly).
There was guitar playing, chatting, laughter, and good food.  All the elements of a fab gathering.
I got a funky, shiny, sequined tank top as a gift.  It’s a shirt I would never buy for myself, but I love it.
And, John made the chocolatiest, yummiest birthday cake ever.
This is one of the reasons I’m so pleased to be moving.  Being close to people I can relate to.  There’s nothing quite like being in a room full of people that I feel totally comfortable with.
So, thank you friends, and here’s to many more gatherings, large and small.

Happy Birthday Erin! It sounds like you had a great one.
Finding families who you connect to is so important. I constantly seek parenting advise from my friends. They are an invaluable resource.

    Sounds like a great birthday!
And we’ve got two sets of twins on our block alone – maybe you should move here.
