life is short and so was the dress

October 30, 2011 by Nancy

Everyone always assumes that the creative girl loves costumes.

I hate costumes. And I actually reserve  no creativity for them.
Firstly, comfort has to be there for me to have a good time- a costume with too much stuff can bring you down. One year I went as Paddington Bear in a costume so furry and hot I lost 15 pounds dancing in it. The head alone weighed 10 pounds and I misplaced it.
Secondly if I look awful, I feel awful. Call me vain, I don’t care. I want to look pretty. Life is short.
Thirdly, I am supposed to be a role model to my teenage daughters but let’s face it all the good costumes are short and tight and perfect for dancing all night on crowded dance floor.
I called BFF who loves costume parties- please can I borrow? It was only a couple of hours before the Hallowe’en party but I knew she would have the some good stuff.
I swung by her place and these were the choices
Robin Hood mini dress that barely covered my butt
Sexy Witch costume that was so tight across the chest it made me look desperate and … evil.
Sailor costume so short and tight -I could not even try it on
An S&M ladybug. I am not kidding you. (who designs this stuff?)
(scariest thing to note- I think all of these were bought in the children’s dept)
BFF was wearing a full piece NASA space suit so tight and white  people were asking her all night if she was wearing undies because there was no ‘line’ in sight.
I said to her- You can wear this stuff- you are married. I feel a tad out there if I wear it. A tad cougarish.
However,  my 16 year old who  was doing this last night, authorized my costume

so I went to two parties like this

Life is short. And so was the dress.
what did you wear for hallowe’en parties this year?

Nance…I am staying up all night reading all….yes, alll of these. You are brilliant and you look darling dressed as…..something yellow. I was my usual self this year..Snow White. So far, I have only been able to keep one of 12 grandchildren convinced that I truly am…Snow White. Rog’s 5year old, Hanna ….I have convinced her she is Princess Belle. The rest have out grown my dream job idea of being Snow White….so sad! You are precious in yellow, just right length and all.

That looks a pretty darn good costume to me. This year I went as Jessica Rabbit…and the dress might have been long but the slit in it was higher than your dress was short 😉

    Niiiiice… suddenly, I need a cab. (Heh.)
I totally get you on the whole costume-wearing thing. I don’t love dressing up like that either. I don’t think I’ve ever even worn a store-bought costume like that… I often just opt for my devil’s horns. Of course, I wear them a lot, even outside of the end of October. I’m bad like that. 😉
