Dad’s obituary was published today in the Toronto Star and the Globe and Mail. I have reproduced it here as well.
Unfortunately I have been unable to find phone numbers for many of his work friends so I am hoping they will see his obituary and contact me.
The lyrics are by James Taylor, one of dad’s favourite singer/songwriters. The song, You Can Close Your Eyes, is a lullaby that he used to sing to Maddy and me.
DOUGLAS WILLIAM LITTLE
November 23, 1947 (Toronto) – May 31, 2011 (North Bay)
Predeceased by his daughter Madeleine and his sister Diane Clarke. Doug will be deeply missed by his daughter Erin (John), brothers Jim (Elizabeth) and Tom (Sharyn), brother-in-law Dave Clarke, his grandchildren Matthew, Ella, Fiona and Sophie, his nieces and nephew, his former wife Marilyn Hardy (Michael) and Andrew Hardy. We will all miss this gentle soul.
Well the sun is surely sinking down
But the moon is slowly rising
So this old world must still be spinning ’round
And I still love you
So close your eyes
You can close your eyes, it’s all right
I don’t know no love songs
And I can’t sing the blues anymore
But I can sing this song
And you can sing this song
When I’m gone — James Taylor
In lieu of flowers, perform a random act of kindness, and when someone is kind to you, pay it forward. There will be a memorial service in the summer of 2011. For details or to leave a remembrance go to www.rememberingdouglittle.blogspot.com

Er,
I know the emptiness you are feeling. Your dad was an amazing man in so many ways. So gentle and loving and smart and funny. I remember he was The Tickle Monster when we were little. And I remember he was the little brother my mom so adored.
I love you lots.
