I am so excited because we are going to Cuba for Christmas! We’re headed for Cayo Coco to an all -inclusive resort. I’ve never, ever, stayed at an all-inclusive resort. My travels have almost always been of the backbacking adventure kind, much like the adventure Ursi is on now. I’ve been on a bit of a nostalgia trip tonight, looking through my travel photos and scanning for this post (yup, I’m that old, most of my travel pics were, gasp, emulsion film).
I’ve had quite a few adventures in my day. Beginning at 16 with two trips to the Carribean, one avec Papa, but he let me and my pal do our own thing, and one sans famille. Next, off to Europe at 19, where I had my camera stolen while waiting for a ferry from Brindisi, Italy to Greece, sigh, I only had one finished roll before the theft, and now I can’t even find those pictures.
For some of the rest, voila, a photo montage – surprise.
Here is a family I met while hiking in Chile.

I’d love to travel like this again someday with the girls (OK, maybe a bit more upscale than the cheap inexpensive guest houses I used to stay in).
Right now though, what I need is this:
A beach, a pool, some cocktails, lots of sleep and a kids program so I can enjoy it all some of the time.
Thanks D. 🙂
As you can see here, Fiona & Sophie are already well versed in Cuban history:

Wow, so much to look forward to. I was in Cayo-Coco in 2007 with 35 college students from Canadore College. We really loved it. There was a little train/car you could hop to go between resorts for drinks and food. Government owns them all so you can go where you want. I liked using the bicycles at the hotels and they also had good horseback riding. The closest city is Moran. There is a good museum there with information and artifacts on the revolution.

Oh, have an excellent time, lady!! I’m so jealous – I haven’t been on a beach in a warm country since our honeymoon 10 years ago. (Man, that sounds so pathetic!) Enjoy yourselves… and Merry Christmas!! xox
