So some particularly unattractive (lets face it I looked horrid) pictures motivated me to get moving. Between that and starting to actually care about my family’s health- I am committed whether I lose another pound or not. So that said, heres my question:
I’ve been eating healthy, getting active. I am noticing that my clothes fit me differently, I am able to notch in my belt another hole, but I haven’t lost more than a couple pounds and I am holding steady there for almost two weeks now.
Whats going on or what am I doing wrong? I’m not going to quit trying…because I feel so much better, but it is a bit frustrating.

Thanks Christine for that reminder. That’s EXACTLY where I am at right now. I feel better when I am working out, and eating healthy, but I am NOT seeing any huge changes on the scale. (and I wish I was). Somedays, it’s so frustrating, as I seem to increase in weight, even though I have exercised and eaten everything right. That’s when I tend to get very discouraged.

Hi ‘wonkers’,
When I first start to work with clients for weight loss I often do what no weight loss clinic will do and ask my clients to put their scale away for 2 weeks. The reason being, the scale is not always the best indicator as to whether or not you are doing the right thing. What I feel is more accurate are the answer the following questions…. “How do you feel, both physically and emotionally now that you have done these changes?” “Are your clothes fitting differently?” If things are getting better in both those areas then what you are doing is working and the weight will often follow.
All that said, if your clothes are fitting differently and you are not losing actual pounds it could be that you are simply not as bloated (due to better dietary habits), it could also be that you are gaining muscle mass and losing fat (esp. prevalent if you start weight training along with dietary changes).
A few proven things that help accelerate weight loss are to make sure you are eating a good source of protein at each of your meals, to start lifting weights and to eat smaller amounts more frequently throughout the day.
I am sure the weight didn’t take 2 weeks to put on so be patient with your body and try incorporating the tips above. As long as you see progress be happy, 1/2 a pound a week can add up to 26 pounds in a year…nothing to laugh at.
Let me know how it is going!
