Holy CRAP!!! What a week on television! So many new shows and old favourites returning. I wish I had a PVR but sadly, I’m not going there. It would be like giving an alcoholic a portable beer fridge. I don’t need to have my addiction fed by any more means.
So what new show am I the MOST excited about??? Well…I’m going to let you in on my dirty little secret. The show that has me the most excited isn’t new. It’s old. Like Clint Eastwood old. It’s CORONATION STREET!
I need all of you closet fans to swing open the doors and join me in rejoicing what has been BY FAR the most insane week in the history of the Street.
Let’s step back. If you don’t know Coronation Street (how??), it’s been on the air since 1960 set in a small town in England called Weatherfield. Unlike North American soaps – if you miss a week or two of the Street, you could have missed a murder, an affair, bigamy, suicide, and likely a couple more murders. Its campy, it’s hard to understand the accents at times, but I’ve been watching for years. Why anyone would move to Weatherfield with the murder rate as high as it is beyond me but they do.
I tend to not watch in the summer but catch up again every fall. In Britain, the shows air about six months ahead of where they do here so you can read ahead online. Two weeks ago, I picked it up again and HOLY CRAP. In the last week alone follow me here…
- a club exploded
- a monorail crashed into the street
- a crazy stalker got hit over the head with a hammer
- the corner shop fell on Rita!
- Molly left her husband with her baby who isn’t his
- She promptly got trapped under the store rubble and died
- Before she died she outed the father, her best friends husband
- two regulars died in the explosion
- a baby was born prematurely
This was all in a WEEK!!!!!!!! So guys – I’m telling you. Just say no to Revenge; Pan Am; and Hart of Dixie. Turn off Grey’s Anatomy and Law and Order SVU (Stabler is gone anyway). Turn on the Street. You will not be disappointed! I’m including a clip for your viewing pleasure. For us regulars, yes it’s devastating, but to watch the acting is gold!

I love love love Corrie street. I got addicted to it after high school whilst I was nursing my self inflicted wounds on a Sunday morning (hangover). Still a huge fan, but I am going to miss Ashley, he was a fav of mine.. 🙁 Do you think that Tyrone and Sally will end up together?? 🙂 Thanks for the blog Sara, glad to hear I am not the only Canadian watching!!

I’ve been a Corrie fan for as long as I have been alive. It was the one thing from “back home” that my parents had here.
I am LOVING the 1 hour episodes/5 hour Sunday marathons!
KUDOS to CBC for trying to catch us up!
(admittedly I subscribe to Corrie.net and get weekly updates from Belfast, so I’m caught up to current UK storylines)
