On saturday, i handed Isabella a piece of bread. she took a bite out of it and said:
"mommy look! it’s a dinosaur! it’s so SCARY!"
and then took another bite and said:
"mommy look! it’s a tiger! rawr!"
and then took another and said:
"oh, now it’s a dog. woof"
and then another and said:
"oh, is a turtle. like flank-a-lin!" (that’s Franklin…for all you non toddler-speakers)
and then popped the last little bit in her mouth and said:
"oh! isallgone!"
amazing. i sat and stared at my 2-year-old and watched the cogs turning in her head as she used her imagination to turn one piece of bread into an entire zoo of animals. These days, she amazes me with just about every thing she does. How she nurtures her babies and rocks them and sings to them and says "sleep tight" (i don’t know where she gets this…i don’t think i even say sleep tight to her) before she covers them with blankets. how she dresses herself…even down to her shoes (how come my 2-year-old can figure out her left and right feet, but my almost 5-year-old cannot??) The look of awe and wonder on her face as she sat down and watched Sleeping Beauty for the first time.
what a ridiculously great kid.
and tomorrow, my ridiculously great kid starts her first day of preschool!
i bit the bullet, and signed her up for a program. it’s only 2 days a week – from 9-12. but it’s all her. no mommy, no nanny. i’m so excited for her. she’s totally ready for this. and i’m totally ready for this. for her to explore her independence and have something that’s just hers. no parents. no nannies. just my Isabella. and a room full of kids.
i can’t wait.

I hope it goes really really well!
Not that it’s exactly the same, but Matt switched from a traditional “day care” to a full time preschool in December. Trust me – there’s a difference. Anyway, it’s pretty amazing to see what they learn.
He loves it.
