Best Oscar Speeches – Get Your Hankies….

February 22, 2012 by Sara

Billy Crystal is back hosting the Oscars this year.  Over the years, Billy has brought some big laughs…remember when he came out as Hannibal Lecter? So good.  But lets face it.  We like to cry at the Oscars.  We like a big, emotional, intelligent speech.

It just so happens that the two speeches that immediately came to mind both focus on the plight of gay Americans and both Tom Hanks (1993 for Philadelphia) and Dustin Lance Black (Writer for Milk in 2009) give brilliant speeches.  I hope that in another 15 years, this won’t even be an issue.

Here is Dustin’s speech (don’t you want to meet his parents???)

You are so right, Sara. I totally watch for the big, beautiful, heartfelt, intelligent speeches by people who ignore the shut-up music. (And I too hope this will not be an issue much longer.)

I remember those as well. *sniff* Let’s hope it’s sooner than 15 years. My goodness, I STILL can’t believe it’s an issue. It’s shameful, really. Good picks, Sara. 🙂
