Basically the Best Thing I Have Ever Put In My Food-Hole

July 12, 2012 by Amanda

In my (slowly-progressing) plan to rid our family’s diet of preservatives I purchased an ice-cream maker. Have you read what they put in store-bought ice cream these days? Half of them aren’t even actually ice cream, rather “frozen dessert”. If something needs quotation marks around it, I’m not sure I want to eat it.

After not doing much research at all, I purchased the Kitchen Aid Ice Cream Maker Attachment since I already have a 10 year-old, much-loved Kitchen Aid mixer and thought it would be nice to just incorporate my ice cream making desires into what I already had on hand as opposed to buying a whole new gadget.
I tried my hand at their basic Vanilla Ice Cream recipe, the one that comes with the manual and we all raved about the results. It tasted like Haagen-Dazs and it was so nice to know what was actually in the ice cream we were eating. Then, last weekend I upped the ante. I made homemade Peanut Butter Ice Cream with Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups.

OH. MAH. WORD.
The Vanilla Ice Cream recipe is here.  To that I simply mixed 1 cup of smooth peanut butter, with 3/4 cup sugar and added it during the last few minutes of mixing time, then I stirred a whole bunch of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups chopped up in big, delicious hunks of delight.
I served it to some company and everyone groaned in ecstasy. It takes a bit of planning and a bit of time, but it’s worth it.
What your favourite hot-weather treat?

Sounds so good, lady! And yes – most “ice cream” is made of “product” that I can’t spell or understand. Lovely alternative… and I’m sure it tastes divine!!
