‘Hi. I need to make an appointment to see Dr. X’
‘Sure Sara what seems to be the problem?’
‘The problem? I have a 35 pound barnacle stuck to my side. I can’t shake him it.’
All right. I didn’t call the doctor but I’m starting to feel like I’m eventually going to need a blow torch to remove this kid from my side.
When we first moved to our new house, it was like heaven to have a basement playroom. Will would happily hang down there and I could go up and down the stairs – getting dinner; checking the Y&R; or just not being under each others feet all the time. It was a great balance.
This has come to a crashing, screeching halt. I can’t go to my car in the morning to get my coffee cup without him screeching like a banshee. I can’t go up the stairs to get the socks that I forgot to bring down. I can’t go to the bathroom alone.
Now before you sympathize with me (or say ‘it’s a phase’)….I probably should be as surprised as much as Kat Von D was about Jesse James. It’s separation anxiety. I get it. The last month or so, I’ve been away a ton. I think it’s healthy for both of us but it’s obviously taken it’s toll.
My question is….is the only solution to not leave him as much? Cause that ain’t happening in the short term. Any other suggestions? I had a mole burned off once and it hurt like hell…I need something else.
**Lest you think – I’m ditching him and he’s miserable…this was from the Royal last Friday with my sister. He has a blast when I’m not around!**
Tracey says
Oh, man. I get it… I think I’d just be firm about “coming right back” like when going to the basement or to the bathroom… oy. It’ll go away again. Soon. Good luckk with your barnacle. *slides drink down the bar*

It’s funny Jen – I thought the EXACT thing this morning. I shall try…but the claustrophobic in me is itching….

You’re probably going to hate this comment even more than the “it’s just a phase comment”, but here’s the take from a mom whose son went through this a decade ago, and who is now a 12.5 year who has to be begged, bribed and cajoled to spend time with me…try to enjoy it!
Sara says
tequila is a solution for all no? Thanks Julie! I am trying the extra time and making the most of the time we have.
Julie says
ummm…this, too, shall pass? i think that’s all i have but extra time when you can get it. don’t worry, when this phase goes by the wayside, something else will turn up to turn you upside down.
tequila?
