Most large organizations expectations and cultures are not conducive to raising a family. So, many educated, experienced, and talented women are unable to find jobs flexible enough to allow them to spend time with their families.
Therefore, there is an ever growing trend among professional women to stay at home full-time putting their careers on hold and sacrificing household income. Many women in this position would love to work but can not find a part-time or flexible opportunitiy at their level. Those who cannot afford to stay at home often have no choice but to work in full-time, demanding jobs.
This leaves a large pool of talented and educated professionals available in the workforce.
Urbanmoms would like to start The Revolution (as one of my working mom friends put it) and help to educate and inform employers about this huge opportunity. As well as offering moms access to challenging jobs with top employers who understand the importance of family.
We are going to start a job posting board on the site so if you or anyone you know has a position available that is at a family friendly company and has flexible hours, is part-time, has modified work hours, is shared, or is just plain family friendly, please email me. If we feel that this is going to happen we will start posting jobs as they come in.
If you are thinking about flexible work or a family friendly situation check out a book called Flex Appeal by Jacqueline Foley. She offers practical advice and resources to get you started. To share your thoughts please press the Comments button below.
