Back-to-School Fashions for Your Fashionistas

September 11, 2011 by Jennifer

Back to school ushers in not only a new season, but really a new year, and what better way to mark the occasion than with a new outfit?  A new back to school outfit was a tradition in my family growing up, and it’s one I’ve maintained with my own kids. September always brings with not only excited feelings about returning to the school yard, but a few butterflies in the stomach about new teacher and new routines. I don’t know about you, but I always feel more confident when I’m wearing new clothes!

So what will your little fashionistas be wearing to class this Fall? Speaking from my own experience, it’s all about the jeans this year. In years past, my kids have been much more comfortable in leggings (for my daughter) and track pants (for my sons), but this year – whether it’s the maturity of entering grade one and middle school or simply the cycle of fashion trends – they’re all about the jeans.
My daughter’s wearing these dark rinse skinny jeans from Old Navy

And my son likes these from West 49

Up top, my daughter’s mad about plaid. She picked out this adorable tunic blouse from The Children’s Place, and can’t wait until the weather’s cool enough to wear it.

My son’s got a thing about plaid, too, but he likes a more rugged look. We found  this Volcom workshirt half-price at Sporting Life, and he can’t be bothered waiting for cooler weather; he hasn’t taken it off!

And because I always figure you’re more apt to put your best foot forward when you’re wearing new kicks, we finished our back to school shopping at the shoe store.
My daughter loves the athletic style, complemented with the sparkly purple of these Skechers. I love the velcro closure, which will assure me of a quick and easy exit out the door in the morning!

I’m afraid to say that my sons’ footwear choice runs us into the athletic and expensive realm of the shoe store, and at the rate they’re growing I need to replace these boats every couple of months. However, if I had my choice for them, I’d be looking at these Converse All-Stars from their Dr.Seuss collection.

So there you have it, the kids are all decked out head to toe and ready to start a new school year, but more importantly…what will you be wearing to the schoolyard?!

If you have a teen do them a favour….take them to Jean Machine for a great pair of jeans!!! They may be a little more expensive then some other places, but they are going fit well, the sevice is outstanding and your daughter (or son) is going to feel confident and look great!!! Your teens are going to love you for it!!!!

I found the jeans at West 49 were the only stylish ones that fit my 12 year old son. They weren’t man sized but they were still cool and fit well. Great tips.

LOVE the plaid but my son won’t wear it. He thinks it looks too “girlie”. Any tips on trendy styles for the resisters?

I love it when Old Navy rocks a sale… And boot cut jeans are good on EVERYONE!
