If you’ve been following me on twitter recently, you’ll know I’ve been hard at work setting up what I’d originally dubbed as the Great Canadian East Coast Culinary-Themed Family Road Trip. While we’ve spared you that exhausting title and trimmed the name down to Canadian East Eats, it gives you a good idea of what is en route to UrbanMoms this month.
When I originally thought of planning a trip East this summer I was really disappointed by the lack of information online for families looking to make road trips through Eastern Canada. From a culinary tourism perspective, while there are some great sites on individual stops along the way, I couldn’t find anything that would help me lay out a good end-to-end route. So I though I’d blaze a trail for you all. Follow along, and hopefully we’ll inspire you to set out on your own culinary-themed family adventure.
Quite appropriately, I’m hopping in a GMC Acadia (yes, some subtle Canadian History humour…) with my 3 kids and we are eating our way East and back. With stops in Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and PEI, the itinerary is shaping together beautifully – I can’t wait to share it with you all.
Here’s a sneak peak at our route:
There’s lots more to come… follow us here!

Hey Julie, I agree it is sad that Gould’s is gone from Shediac. But try Chez Leo’s for awesome fried clams. They are on the other side of the big lobster, across the bridge. Yummy!

JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lobster rolls – lobster rolls and more lobster rolls. Oh and grab some poutine and steamers at Lafleurs on your way through Montreal.

i’m sad to say that “gould’s” in shediac n.b. is no more otherwise i would have sent you there for the lightest, most delicate deep fried clams ever! i still can’t believe it’s gone!
if you want awesome “diner” complete with canned vegetables and gravy, hit the blue canoe outside of oromocto. we stop there all the time and it’s a hot turkey sandwich heaven! 🙂

Sounds amazing! My husband and I drove out East a couple of summers ago with our two kids. If you get a chance you should go to Hopewell Rocks in New Brunswick. This was one of the highlights of our trip. If you check their website they will give you information on when low tide and high tide is. We went when it was low tide and we were able to walk on the ocean floor. My kids loved it. The best pizza we had out East was at The Wheel in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. This place is located right across the street from St. Francis Xavier University.
