are you dying from all this cuteness??

September 26, 2006 by Unknown

*****Edited to add: i’ve been listening to all your music submissions. and will be picking a winner on Friday. BUT, it’s not too late to give me some music to listen to. please send more!!!

first things first:

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

they are actually much, much cuter in person. and on her little chubby feet.

and second things second:

yes, that is my nanny talking to her in the background.

yes, she is walking to get an m&m. i’m thinking of getting her a t-shirt that says: will walk for food. seriously, all you readers with your home-based businesses…there must be someone making homemade t-shirts. i’ll buy one. i swear.

yes, i realize that the video is sideways. that was my bad. silly me for thinking that i’d be able to turn it before i uploaded it. so, i apologize early if you get a crick in your neck.

anyone know how???

i’m learning all sorts of new fun html things…like changing colors in html??!! seriously, it’s way way cool sh%^t. and this site? i spent at least an hour playing choosing a background color for my comment page. perhaps i missed my calling. maybe writing and editing children’s books wasn’t my thang (although my book about salad might just be a bestseller one day. it’s quite popular with the cool kindergarteners).

maybe i should have been a web designer. i could have worked from home! on a mac (ah…a girl can dream, can’t she?? i literally have been salivating over macbooks of late)!! I could have made my own hours! worked in pajamas! used cool words like "style sheets" and "widgets"!!

maybe one day. i’ll add it to my list of cool jobs i’d like to have, which includes jobs like personal shopper and co-host on The View. what about all of you? any dream jobs? is there anything you wished you had gone into instead of what you have? how did you pick what you did become?

i am pretty sure that i always knew i would do something with words. i just didn’t know what. my mother actually – probably one of the most thoughtful things she’s EVER done for me – bought me this book called "100 jobs in words" when i was about 15. i still have it.

my father is a doctor, so i contemplated the med school route for a while (but i didn’t think i’d make it past the whole cadaver thing) and my stepdad’s a lawyer and i considered the law school route as well (but when Kirby Keger reminded me that there were more people in law school than there were lawyers on the entire planet…i ruled that one out as well).

i applied – and got in – to two prestigious communications programs in the states (let’s just say one was in Boston and one was in NYC – i won’t say where, since it could bring me to tears). but, my dream school, Brown, waitlisted me. see, i wanted to go to Brown before Seth and Summer made it trendy. but, since i didn’t speak Chinese or play the violin, i got waitlisted. and then got rejected. and in the words of Zoey 101 – and my daughter Emily – "rejected, rejected, you just got rejected! r-e, j-e, c-t-e-d, rejected!!!!"

anyway, i turned down both schools to move to Canada. (what can i say? i was young and stupid. but i was in love. and i’m still married to that love, 8 years later, so that counts for something, doesn’t it?) I went to York University, where i majored in English Psychology. and i went to Centennial to get my degree in Book and Magazine Publishing.

and the rest is history. at Centennial (which is THE coolest school ever, since it’s Degrassi. i’m not kidding. it really is!) i met Don Sedgwick, who helped me get the job that i currently have now. i owe everything to him.

including, apprently, my uncanny ability for tangents. sheesh. this post was supposed to be about my daughter’s cute shoes, and ended up being about going to school at Degrassi High.

Thanks, Don.

and Brown? eat your heart out.

today’s song of the day: it’s READER’s CHOICE day. i want a song that you’re loving right now. a song you can’t get out of your head because it’s. just. that. good.if i pick your song, you win a mix cd from me. (mix cd sure doesn’t have the same ring to it as mix tape, does it?), made by me. just for you.

so…it’s a contest! tell your friends!

I just came across your site a few days ago, but I tend to be a bit of a music whore, so I had to share some music ideas…
    Somthing Pretty by Patrick Park
Hold You In My Arms by Ray LaMontagne
    Shakin’ by Rooney
I have about a million more to offer, but those are the ones at the top of my list right at this moment πŸ™‚

“begin” by ben lee…actually any song of his from the album “awake is the new sleep”…it’s amazing. i think you’d love it. but i’m not tech-savvy enough to find an mp3 clip for you to hear…so hopefully you’ll figure it out! πŸ™‚
also elliott smith is great for this time of year…”from a basement on a hill” is especially good, kind of haunting (it was released after his death)…it’s very calming, introspective music…i love it for when i’m walking to class or working on a project

Hey babe…cool to learn so much about you – now I know how you ended up in The Great White North!!
Dream jobs? I am still dreaming LOL….
My parents were migrants from Germany in the late 50’s so were dirt poor when they arrived in Canada. My parents actually met in a bar on Spadina Avenue of all places! No formal education for either, but my father had 4 apprenticeships going so learned a lot of trades and let’s face it, in the 60’s, Canada was dying for skilled workers. Mum started out as a maid for an upper class WASP’y family who treated her like dirt, but then she went to work for a Jewish family in Forest Hill who treated her really well, and from then on, she worked in Jewish restaurants on Spadina (the most notable being United Bakers, which has relocated as you know to B&L). My parents pushed us really hard to work hard at school and we all went to university (and eventually finished – that is my brother and sister). I wanted to go away to university (like Queen’s or somewhere) but my overprotective mom wouldn’t let me go anywhere but U of T, so studied engineering and hated every moment of it. In fact I nearly dropped out after 1st year to reconsider and go into science/medicine. In hindsight, I am glad I didn’t (all that blood and stuff ya know). I have a nice sensible very well paying job and I love what I do (traffic and transportation engineer/planner), a nice balance between sort of artsy and dealing with people (architects, planner, developers, etc.) and number crunching (which I am really good at, sad to say, I am one of those who can calculate the GST & PST to the cent):(((
My dream job though would be either to be a writer or a personal shopper, seeing as I love books, mags, newspapers, the internet and USED to be a great writer in high school, but the whole poverty thing did NOT appeal ROFL. My closest friend from high school is a wrtier/journalist and we both love girly mind candy (i.e. chick lit). Re the shopping thing – well I am the QUEEEEEEN. Thank God for the web, otherwise my kids would be dressed in naff cheap Ozzie gear, yuck..
A logical extension of my job would be teaching at university, which I loved doing when I was still in Canada – I taught transport planning at U of T to adult students and at Ryerson to 2nd year urban plannign students. Doing my Master of Arts in City Policy at Murdoch University at the moment, so maybe I still have an “in”.
    Wow, long post.
BTW, can’t see Bella’s video although she sounds adorable…yep Miss M is the same – her t-shirt should read WILL DO ANYTHING FOR SMARTIES/MCDONALDS HAPPY MEALS…
Love the shoes, keep forgetting you guys are in fall, going into winter soon.
Reminds me I need to get the kids some summer sandals.
