I turned 30 years old this weekend. Seriously, even writing that is hard.
I’m not going to lie- I have been dreading this birthday for months. There’s something about this age- THIRTY- that just doesn’t sit well with me. I remember, in my early 20s, looking at thirty year olds. They seemed old to me. Now, here I am, that “old” age of 30 and I’ve convinced myself that I don’t look anything like those 30 year olds I once viewed but, in reality, I probably do. I think most people would look at me, with my weary, tired, dark circled eyes, my yoga pants and hoodie uniform, and my infamous ponytail, and they can tell that I’m 30 years old. Yup, I think I’m there and the sooner I accept my “maturity” (as one of my grade 8 students called it), the better.
So, how did I celebrate my big 3-0??
I went to the zoo with my two boys, had an amazing hot stone mud wrap at Stillwater Spa, bumped into Hilary Swank as I was leaving the spa (ok, technically my husband did, but still- I was right behind her and, no, we didn’t ask her for a picture or autograph), then hubby and I ate an amazing lobster risotto and lamb dinner at Sassafraz.
Well, no picture for the frame, but I had a great birthday with my boys and, now that I’ve been 30 for a few days, I’m starting to get used to it…I mean, it’s better then the age my Grade 7/8 students guessed I was! (trust me, you don’t want to know!).

Leave it to our students to always make us feel young, huh?
I have to agree with all the other posts, you definitely don’t look 30, but I can share your pain. In November I’m turning 31. The part that really scares me is when I think of being 40 when Julian is 10, 50 when his 20 and so on….
Why are we so hooked on the number 30 anyway?B
By the way, I too love the pics…especially the middle one!

Annemarie- My students guessing I was 10 yrs old would have been way more awesome then what they actually guessed (although one kids said I looked 16- but I think that was because he was hoping for better marks!!)

You sure don’t look 30. It’s just a number so enjoy the 30’s. I was 30 when you were born. How’s that for old? Love you.

Thirty is the new twenty! I love when students try and guess how old you are – they have no idea. You are either as old as them, younger, or as old as their parents! Except when you teach grade one – I had someone say I was ten. Lol not sure if that is a compliment or not?
So glad you had a great birthday. Your little man is quite a character can’t wait to hear more stories!

You SO don’t look 30….and I love those pictures! I had a couple issues with 30 but not too bad…40 didn’t even phase me. I’m with Jen on the old lady sounding thing. Every day here is a good day. Your day sounded AMAZING!!!

My 30s have been AMAZING! I turn 40 on my next bday and can’t wait. I don’t want to sound too old lady-ish but every healthy, new day is a gift. Enjoy them!

30 isn’t so bad… I turn 35 in a couple months. That rounds up to 40. I think I’m gonna cry.
Glad you enjoyed yourself, sounds like a fabulous day! I love the middle picture, I would frame that one in a heartbeat.
