I felt old for the first time today.
yes. at the ripe old age of 29.
Emily has just recently graduated to the green band at Canada’s Wonderland. i don’t really think she’s actually a green, but her ponytail was sticking up above the line and some generous underpaid staff member granted her her wish – a green line means that she could go on The Fly.
it’s not an overly scary or loopy roller coaster. i mean, it doesn’t even go upside-down, but the twisty-and-turny jerk-like nature of its twists are not easy on the stomach.
when i got off the ride, this woman turns to me and says, "i’m way too old for this."
and i answered, "so am i."
i used to be able to go on everything. twice. thrice in a row. no problem. i’d be there the minute the park opened and ride everything possible. i’d know which had the shortest lines and which hour of the day. backwards, standing up, legs dangling…i loved ’em all.
except for Drop Zone. for two reasons. firstly, because it scares the crap out of me. and secondly, because that girl lost her legs on the same ride in Kentucky. There’s just no way. not going to happen.
crap. i’m only 29.

All right, checkin’ in here at a young 38! I did no less than THE BAT with my 8yo nephew last month, without even a nausea patch (well, I did chomp down 2 children’s gravol immediately afterwards…hey, it was what I had in my purse, okay?)
Anyway, what I find is that if it goes up and down, I’m good. If it goes round and round…you’d better look out and pass me a plastic bag – STAT!
As for Drop Zone, I love it. The first drop is the best part of a coaster ride, therefore DZ has to be the best ride. Right?
Oh, and if you ever want to be freaked out, come talk to my friend who represented the families of the victims of the West Edmonton roller coaster accident (the cars fell off the track mid-loop-de-loop). Yeah. Scary. But she still goes on all the rides with the kids!

I haven’t been on a coaster since before I had my kids, but I was in my 30’s still. Now you’re scaring me because I fully intend to get on a couple at Wonderland before the season’s up, with my 7 year old (purple band – he’s already been on the Wildbeast and Minebuster). Hell, my 2 year old loves TaxiJam. And I’m 30-ten-and-then-some. Hopefully I won’t have a coronary.

I have not been able to do roller coasters without feeling nauseous since my early 20s. I used to do them all over and over and over! Now, I drag myself on and then crawl off with a sweaty upper lip excessively attempting to swallow the stubborn lump in my throat. The things we do for our kids!

You’re not old. You just had kids young…..And, those coasters are INSANE! I’m NOT looking forward to riding them with my little ones!!! You’re one brave mama, I’d say! And, by the way…? SCREW YOU for saying your OLD at twenty-frikkin-nine! HAAATE! 😉
