A Cheap(er) Version of Latisse?

February 11, 2011 by Metalia

Let me be clear: this isn’t a recommendation…yet. All I know is, I am intrigued by Latisse, and the crazy long lashes Claire Danes (their spokeswoman) has been sporting of late, but not enough to take time out of my day to go see my dermatologist to get a prescription, and pay upwards of $100 for it. So when I spotted L’Oreal’s Lash Boosting Serum (hereinafter referred to as “Fake Latisse”) at the drugstore for $14.99 (and no prescription needed), I figured it was worth a shot. It didn’t hurt that it got 4 out of 5 stars on makeupalley.com, either.

I just started using Fake Latisse last night, and from what I’ve read, it seems that there will be a marked difference by about the four-week mark. I’ll circle back and do a pre- and post picture comparison at that time. I’m sure it’s not AS effective as the pricey stuff, but if it makes an impact, and for $14.99? I AM ON BOARD.

Have any of you used this (or Latisse)?

The Loreal product DOES NOT work. I have been using it for 8 weeks now…. and no difference. I can tell you that before Letisse made Jan Marini take her product off the market, my eyelashes grew so thick and long it was incredible. I now have a script for Letisse. They are having a 2 for 1 sale….

I wasn’t ready to invest in Latisse, only to love it and become dependent on it, so I tried Rapidlash, which was $55 at Ulta (and $45 with my 20% of coupon). I don’t have particularly sparse lashes to begin with, but I was very pleased with my results. I bought it last fall and still use my original tube nightly. It didn’t take long before I felt that wearing sunglasses was a little challenging as my lashes are now so long! When I saw my parents (who live in another region of the country) after a couple of months of using the product, my mom (not knowing I’d been using it) even commented on how long my lashes were. … It’s annoying to me though that those Kardashians and others who are constantly featured in media have set a bar for the new normal – while sporting drag-queen style make-up, including false lashes and lash extensions just for a trip to Starbucks or the gym. No wonder normal women feel lash-bald.

First, I LOVE Bonfires’ link up there. It’s hilarious to read through the comments!
Second, my eye will be on this because if I could pump up the lashes… well, who wouldn’t want that?! Rowr.

I work with a plastic surgeon and some of our receptionists were able to try Latisse. It really does work! One woman had particularly sparse lashes. She had not seen her sister in several weeks and she noticed her thicker lashes right away (without a hint!)
That said, fake Latisse is intriguing – any warnings on the label???

does this work on non-existent lashes, I wonder? Looking forward to noting the progress, Metalia! Great find… fingers crossed!!

Yes! I used the L’Oreal stuff and I have to say, IT DID NOTHING FOR ME. And I mean that literally: it did nothing whatsoever for my eyelashes. I really hate to be the person linking to their own blog post but I even CREATED the Disappointing Products Hall of Fame for this bad boy! http://nothingbutbonfires.com/2010/02/disappointing-products-hall-fame
But now I just want to try REAL Latisse. I’m sure that works so much better.
