The Oasis at Sunset Beach, Montego Bay, Jamaica

January 6, 2014 by Urban Traveller 1 Comment

I’m just going to cut right to the chase here – I loved this place. The Oasis at Sunset Beach in Montego Bay is now one of my favourite spots. It is not the most luxurious or the biggest or grandest but it has everything a family could want from an all inclusive. Why did I love it so much? Here’s my list:

1) Location: The resort is located just minutes from the airport so you can start your vacation as soon as you arrive. Something so simple! But when your flight lands and you feel that first hot burst of air the only thing you want is to get into your suit and hit the beach.

2) The Oasis: The upgrade from The Sunset Beach Resort and Waterpark to the newly opened Oasis at Sunset was definitely worth it. With upgraded rooms, a private beach area and exclusive dining area called The Terrace (including a dedicated bar) the Oasis upgrade adds an element of  luxury in all the right ways. Of course, the free in room internet was definitely something I took advantage of but simple things like beach towels in your room and private check-in area made life a lot easier.

3) The Vibe. Jamaica always has a relaxed vibe but there was something tangible about the energy at Sunset Beach. I instantly felt relaxed and welcome upon arrival. The resort is very well maintained and because it is not huge everything is accessible so there is a comfortable buzz as people explore, relax and enjoy what the resort has to offer.

4) The Service. The service was great – period – but the service on the Oasis side was exceptional. Mr. Jump, the Oasis restaurant manager, remembered us and it was obvious he took pride in the service and food. Our Oasis bartender, Craig, was always smiling and even created “The Craig Special”, a drink my husband loved.

All sorts of fun stuff to do at the beach!

5) The Food. Usually at all inclusive resorts I accept the fact that the food is not going to be stellar. Sometimes it is OK but most often it is mediocre at best. However, at The Sunset Beach we were pleasantly surprised. Our first night there we enjoyed a delicious meal at Silk Road, the resort’s Asian offering. Our homestyle breakfasts made fresh every morning at The Terrace were a perfect way to start the day. Even my picky eater always found something and ate more variety than I have ever seen her eat away from home. Add to all of this the incredible views from a resort that wraps around capturing every angle and you can see why it moves up my list. The Oasis at Sunset Beach is accessible and affordable. I highly recommend it for your next family vacation!

Gorgeous.
