The List of the BEST Beaches!

January 10, 2013 by Jen

When planning a vacation, the details of the beach itself can actually be the key to a successful holiday. There are so many options when it comes to destinations I thought it might be helpful to give you a few of my favourite beaches to help you narrow down your choices. The truth is, there are many different kinds of beaches from the relaxing to the bustling to the family focused. I mostly prefer the vast and relatively quiet, myself. So, before you book, think about what you want from your trip and how the beach will play a part in that.
Here is a list of my tops and the reasons why they made the list in no particular order:
Bald Head Island, North Carolina – Surprised? So was I. This island just edging the border of North Carolina is like no other. With no cars (you leave your vehicle parked on land, ferry over to the island and drive golf carts or ride bikes while visiting!) and spacious accommodation this little gem is a must. Virtually unknown to most Canadians, Bald Head Island offers stretches of beautiful, soft sand beaches without the crowds. A no brainer to top my list this year!
Where we stayed: We rented a beautiful home through Wendy Wilmot Properties.

Ahh…soft, velvetty sand as far as the eye can see!
Negril, Jamaica – While in Negril we stayed at Beaches Resorts. If you are looking for a family destination, Beaches Resorts never disappoint no matter where you are headed. However, if the beach is one of your requirements you have found the ideal spot here. Beaches Negril is known for its long stretch of pristine beach. Perfect for a relaxing family holiday!
Where we stayed: I have stayed in a number of places in Negril but the best beach was at Beaches Sandy Bay.

Need I say more??
Amelia Island, Florida – Long pristine beaches, clear waters and abundant wildlife are all a part of the beauty of Amelia Island. This hidden gem in northern Florida is a world away from the stereotypical Florida adventure and a step into a tropical paradise with beaches as far as the eye can see.
Where we stayed: The soon to be re-imagined (with an $85 million dollars renovation) the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort.

Heading to the beach!
Turks and Caicos – Ah, yes. The turquoise water, the white sand beach stretching for miles, and voted “Best of all island beaches worldwide” by the readers of Condé Nast Traveler, the beaches in Turks are close to perfection. During our stay we enjoyed lounging, walking, swimming and a beach party of epic proportions. Definitely a must-see!
Where we stayed: Another fabulous Beaches trip, Beaches Turks & Caicos.

Can you feel that silky sand in your toes??
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic – Hotels and resorts line the bustling beach as far as the eye can see. In fact, we never even made it end to end! The beautiful white sand beaches are full of activity, playmates for your kids and lots of options for outings from parasailing to catamaran rides and more. If it is a fun filled beach vacation you are seeking, Punta Cana is the perfect destination.
Where we stayed: The luxurious Melia Caribe Tropical in a Royal Service suite. Take me away!

There is a lot to do and see on the beach in Punta Cana!
Anna Maria Island, Florida – Anna Maria is a short drive from the hustle and bustle of St. Pete Beach (another beautiful beach!) but it may as well be a world away. Just a minute’s walk from our quaint beachside cottage for the week was a stretch of beautiful, spacious white sand beach. This hidden gem offers a laid back atmosphere within an existing community. A great alternative to the traditional hotel or resort vacation.
Where we stayed: The quaint and relaxing Anna Maria Beach Cottages.

What do you look for in a beach vacation? Where is your favourite beach?
