The Text Talk Game

January 12, 2013 by Alice

So you all have seen the way teens type on their cell phones, yes? With numbers and abbreviations and whatnots? A favourite author is now bringing the fun to the younger set with this book that turns it into a game.

Amy Krouse Rosenthal

Chronicle Books
ISBN: 978 1 4521 1022 6

The cover says it all: “It’s a book! It’s a game! it’s words cre8ed with numbers!”
Rosenthal and partner in crime Tom Lichtenheld pair a handful situations that demonstrate the game with comic-style illustrations that are not only great fun, but necessarily move the whole affair into the visual so you can see the number thing more clearly.

Take a look at this spread as a prime example:

The pair dedicate the book to the brilliant William Steig, noting that his classic C D B! inspired them, and you can definitely see the echo of that book here. If you think your kid is one who would enjoy a fun puzzle or word game like this, it’s definitely worth checking out its forerunner, as well.

Also available as an ebook, perfect for colour readers like the Nook, the Arc, or the Vox.
