Tangled Tinsel and Other Travesties

December 20, 2012 by Alice

You know a book has potential for gifting when your daughter grabs it off your review pile before you even get to write about it, begging to have it for herself. I let her – it’s Christmas, after all.

I theoretically prefer to give a child blank paper and supplies and let them make up their own stuff – but then, I also remember loving colouring. Somewhere between these two extremes lie these doodle books, which give kids a prompt, and then let them run with it. For the child who is not ready to jump in, who is just not feeling super-creative that day, or who tends to not know how to start, these are a great tool. For others, well, it’s just plain fun. My kid is an artistic type, and quite excited about this, so yeah, she’s getting one more last-minute gift. If you’ve got a kid on your list who needs one last thing, this makes a good pick!

If you’re looking for something post-holiday, there are others in this series that provide the same sort of bumpstart in different themes, as well. I’ve reviewed a couple of them here.

I LOVE these kinds of books! Great ideas for kids who aren’t super-spontaneous with a blank page. Nice!!
