Pass The Kleenex….Saddest Movie of All Time…

July 29, 2011 by Sara

So the scientific community has put its collective heads together to prove what is the saddest movie of all time – one that generates the most sadness across all ages and sexes. (yes – I’d also prefer that they’d be trying to cure cancer but what the hell). The result? Grab your kleenex and let me give you the line.

the-champ_l.jpgWAKE UP CHAMP!  CHAMP! WAKE UP CHAMP!

ahhhhhhhhh – I’m crying.  Yup little Ricky Schroeder pounding on Jon Voight’s chest at the end of The Champ…now scientifically proven as the saddest movie of all time….close second was Bambi.

I looooove sad movies.  I can’t help it – I do.  The Champ would have for sure been on my list.  Here are my top 5 saddest….give me yours – I could use a good cry this weekend.

1. The Champ

2. Finding Neverland

3. The Family Stone

4. Brian’s Song

5. Stepmom

Yes – three of these five movies may not have made the list had my mother still been alive – so if you’re fortunate enough to still have yours, you may not understand and I’m happy that you don’t.  If you have lost your mom AND you’ve never seen Finding Neverland…..just don’t.  I wish someone had warned me because when strangers in a theatre are comforting you, it may be just a little bit too sad.

Have only seen Stepmom. Even with non-divorced, still-alive parents, it was pretty sad. But what about Sophie’s Choice?? I was a wreck for days.

As soon as I read the subject line, before I even saw the blog, I immediately thought “The Champ”. Definitely the saddest movie I’ve ever seen. Brian’s Song even moved my ex-husband to tears – no mean feat, as there was hardly an ounce of empathy in that man (but he was a football player, so maybe that was the key…) Milo & Otis was bad, too – but I’m a HUGE suck. I even cry during some TV commercials – cue Bell’s old Remembrance Day commercials……argggg.

    Oh Chris….that was me too – I just sat that sobbing and hyperventilating….and I bought it…but I haven’t watched it again yet….

Oh my gosh… Finding Neverland. I could not leave the theater for awhile afterward because I was SOBBING. My friends thought I was broken. Sadly I own it and re-do this to myself a couple times a year.
