Pool, boats, decks, patio pub, hiking, beach, playground, farm. Do I have your attention yet?
Will and I had an amazing opportunity to spend a weekend at the Viamede Resort on Stoney Lake. Stoney Lake is in the Kawartha Lakes Region of Ontario, a couple hours drive from Toronto. Or in Will time, about five movies and a short nap.
We arrived on a Friday afternoon, after a small panic of Will almost peeing on a snake in a parking lot, and it was perfect. We had a rustic, private cabin, with our own deck looking out on to the lake. We each had our own room AND bathroom. The master bathroom had a jacuzzi tub which Will thought was ‘the coolest thing ever, Mom.’
After a quick, pre-dinner dip in the pool, we got ready for dinner. This was our only swim of the weekend. It was chilly. I would suggest putting a heater in the pool for a family resort. Our dinner warmed us up though. We visited the Boathouse Pub for a frosty beer and their special pulled pork sandwich. Loved it.
Then it was time to hit the hay. Movies in bed? Sure. The beds and bedding were very comfy and between the beds and the cool breeze, I was out cold by 8pm. Will pushed it and watched extra movies.
There is something very relaxing about the Viamede.
Will had a three hour nap on Saturday afternoon. This was after a hot, buffet breakfast; a long hike in the woods; some soccer and playing with Scooby poolside. It was a full day.
We were looking forward to the Viamede’s Barbeque Baskets for dinner. Each cabin comes with an equipped kitchen and a bbq so I thought it would be relaxing to enjoy their service of delivering everything you need for a bbq to your room. Unfortunately, we only got a couple of the things that we ordered and it came in a take-out container. It’s too bad that they didn’t jazz it up with an actual basket, it would make a huge difference. They did rush the other stuff up after we called which was appreciated but a little late with a hungry four-year-old.
The best part of the Viamede? Hands down, their front desk staff. What an impression a warm welcome space and smiling greeting make. They helped with everything including locating a lost Scooby and Shaggy, which seriously could have been a disaster.
So. If you’re looking for a comfortable, relaxing family vacation, I’d absolutely recommend The Viamede! I told them we’re heading back in the fall, the colours will be incredible. Hopefully, our slithering friend in the woodpile will be gone by then.
*While our stay was paid for by the Viamede, the review is all my (and my son’s) opinion.
