Little Chicken Duck, by Tim Beiser
Tundra Books, ISBN: 978 1 77049 392 6
Little chicken is invited into the pond by a frog, and confesses that she is too frightened of swimming. The frog tries to make her feel better by reassuring her that it is normal to be scared of things you don’t understand and takes her into the forest, where many other birds tell her of fears they once had and how they overcame them. Eventhe frogs confesses to once being afraid … of ducks!
This is a really cute little book, and it’s told in a bouncy rhyme that keeps it from being earnest and bounces you and your little reader along nicely between the experiences of the various birds. The illustrations by Bill Slavin are a great pairing, as he adds comic touches and a bright, warm atmosphere that match really well here.
And! If you happen to live in the Toronto are, author Tim Beiser is going to be at the Northern District library on January the 25th for Family Literacy Day, so you could meet him, too!
