Schools these days talk a lot about character traits and how to foster them in our children. They will read stories about them, look for examples in their school community, and talk about them throughout the year. This lovely book brings together examples from the animals world that tie in perfectly.

We think of humans as the pinnacle of civilised behaviour, but if this book shows you anything, it’s that many of the actions and attitudes that we hold in high esteem are present in the animal kingdom, as well! These short tales of animal behaviours are remarkable and eye-opening, and very worth sharing. Did you know that flamingo parents organize to share the care of their young and give each other breaks? That octopus mothers wait in their caves for three months for their eggs to hatch, until she dies from weakness after making sure they are safe? That wildebeests accept zebras into their pack and walk together to help protect each other from predators? There are some amazing tales in here, and each is illustrated in simple, clean images that are accessible to even small children. I’m quite loving this, and sharing it with a kindergarten teacher of my acquaintance for his class!
