I’ve been at this blogging thing for awhile now. I’m guessing it’s been around 10 years. Some of you may have read my original stuff, the WTF Blog. It was about things that would make you say exactly that, WTF. It was full of stories about my crazy pre-child life; dating stories; and Seinfeld type things that I’d notice that just made me scratch my head. I was a bit of a ghost writer though, and pretended to be a twenty-something girl in the city. When I decided to have a baby at 40, I had to own up to the truth. Thankfully, the writing bug had bitten me already, so I just morphed into a …ugh…wait for it…mommy blogger.
Fast forward to this past weekend. I saw the future. I saw Will eventually taking over where I left off with the WTF Blog. He could have written his first entry on Saturday when we passed this on the street.
He stopped dead in his tracks and turned and looked at me with the ultimate WTF face.
“Mom! What IS this?”
“Umm. It’s a phone booth. What do you mean?”
“What’s a phone booth?”
What’s a phone booth??? Then it hit me. Of course he has no idea what it is. He’s never seen a phone booth before. This is hard for me to fathom. He’s only ever seen a cordless or a cell phone.
“Well Will, we never used to have cell phones so if you needed to call someone and you weren’t at home, you’d use one of these.”
“So everyone had one of these in their cars?”
Oh head shake. How do I explain to him that phones used to stay still? That you actually couldn’t move it from one room to another unless you had a really long and stretchy cord!
I think if I told him that there was a time , not too long ago, where there was life without YouTube, he’d lose his mind.
I’m looking forward to more of these WTF moments from Will – it’s a great reminder of things that we totally take for granted!
Have your kids come up with any??
