What I Want For Mother’s Day

May 9, 2012 by Racheal

If I could ask for one thing this Mother’s Day, it’s that everything you would have spent on your wife, mom, girlfriend, partner or yourself be instead donated to the moms at Ronald McDonald House.

Because, and let’s be honest, I don’t need more flowers, or a trip to the spa or yet another gift certificate for LuluLemon.

In fact, I don’t need anything except to realize and appreciate that those women, the ones who really

sacrifice everything, are the ones who deserve to be feted.  They’re the ones who truly need a break and right now the only place they can get that is RMH.

And no roses will fix that.: no flowers will find an organ donor, and no amount of Lulu credit will find a bone marrow match.

Look, we all have to live our own lives.  We each have our own set of troubles to deal with.  I mean right now I have an employer in breach of contract.  But as one of the mothers currently living at RMH put it “there’s more important things than work.  Everyone’s reality is their own, but you never know what tomorrow’ll bring.”

All moms deserve to be appreciated, but my kids are healthy and happy.  They don’t need to be in isolation for fear of dying; they don’t need to be separated from their siblings in case of infection; they don’t need to be sent hundreds of kilometres away for treatment.

So this year, I urge you to do something special.  She may not be your mom, but she sure could use it.
