We’re mid-way through the third week of senior kindergarten. The boy is loving it. Tonight we had a no-tv watching dinner and he told me stories of his music class and acting out The Three Little Pigs through the whole meal. But there have been a couple of things that show me he is a bit stressed out, which is totally normal. We’ve had a few wet beds over the last couple of weeks (I can’t remember the last one) and now – boom – in the last three days, his stutter is back.
Will stuttered a bit around the three and a half age. We went to speech and language and they said the stutter pattern was in line with his age and not to worry. Sure enough, it was gone in a few months. This one is painful to watch. And it’s increasing in frequency over the last few days – totally out of left field!
I asked daycare about it today and they also noticed and then said that today the kids were laughing at him. Who are they? I’ll hunt them down! Okay kidding but still. She and I are on the same page of just telling him to stop, slow down and think about what he wants to say. I’ve packed a note for his teacher for tomorrow to see if she’s noticed the same.

I know it’s not a huge deal but that combined with his mispronunciation of ‘r’ worries me. (You can hear his ‘r’ issue in the video – ‘yawd’.) I don’t want him to be picked on! It’s one time I’m happy for him not to have siblings. I had the same speech impediment and frankly, and they’d agree, they took teasing to a new level on that one.
Sawa. Don’t cwy Sawa. Pass the hambuwgew Sawa and stop cwying.
They had contests to see who could make me cry first. I don’t want him to deal with anything like that.
So I’ll watch it. And if it goes on a few more weeks, we’ll go back to speech and language and work on it.
In the meantime, I’ll peer through windows and, oh I don’t know, put dog poop in the kids lockers that make fun of him. Oh come on. I’m not really serious. Uh huh.
Did your kids have any weird adjustments back to school? Were they stutterers?

This breaks my heart although I am sure it will pass, Sara. I would hunt them down with the wooden spoon too! I hate mean! I love his spirit and he will find his way out of this stage. Have confidence in him because he is INCREDIBLE. Incredible.
