” I never get sick”
me this week just before getting sick
I always think that the reason I never get sick- it has truly been 10 years and I have had nothing all- is because I can’t. This is the rule for people who are self employed with no staff, and single moms with households to run on their own. I fall into both categories leaving me with not much room to breathe and no wiggle room for mistakes.
Some virus hit me Wednesday night late and took my voice rendering me ‘speechless’. I had a fever and muscle pain. Teaching those raised by wolves without my outdoor voice was a challenge. I taught for two days with a squeeky, cartoon voice barely above a whisper. I lost my authority (and my patience) when I lost my voice.
All better now but the episode showed me I am wildly impatient with poor health even try to stare it down until it takes me down, hate not being able to work at 150% and that I have no back up plan.
What do you do when you are sick? SAHMs and SAHDs this is hard for you too. What are the strategies?

Totally hear you Nancy, there is no time in the day for us to get sick. Have you seen that ad when the guy is lying in bed and says “pam, pam, can you call my mom”. I laugh so hard I pee my pants!!! Could you imagine….no no no there is no time for being sick. So next time it happens and you are unwell ( and I hope that is never) take an extra day and enjoy it!!

Oh dear, my darling!! I wondered what had happened to you!! Poor thing…
There’s nothing easy about being down with illness – I suppose the up-side is your girls are older and can help you out a little?! Sleep it away… you’ll be back to the healthy version of yourself soon… be well!! xox

Lordy,
I hope you get well soon, I too get totally stir-crazy when I am sick and flat-out down.
The girls have both been stupidly sick (non-stop fevers, insane sore throats, sore belly, and painful cough-mercifully no vomiting) No sleep because of constant alternate dosing every 2-3 hours of Tylenol/Advil ( & now Codeine)
Both Steve and I are sick too. Steve lucked out with a chest crackle so he got antibiotics and is doing a bit better
The girls have watched more TV this week than the whole year I believe. I just went to the family room and passed out at every chance.
This one is kicking my behind something awful. I’ve never been this ill in ages. Maybe I will take the flu shot next fall.
I forgot to take my own normal remedy (I’ve forgotten because I am running around to walk-ins and pediatritian’s offices all week and getting chest x-rays and all that crap). I am also begging the girls to eat a nibble here and there or at least drink.
Here is my sanity tip: to keep track of which kid has had which medication to avoid risking overdosing due to exhaustion and alternate dosing craziness while a 4 year old is screaming blue murder for drugs all night long…
Steve and I started texting EVERY dose like this :
Em Advil 2:30,
Clare Tylenol 2: 45.
This way we could count up who had maxed out on their dosages before we killed one of them.
Thank god for the iPhone texting threads simplicity. Easy to scroll down and count.
I normally load up on Zinc tablets and losenges, turmeric capsules, Vit D drops, echinacaea Forte, and lots of B vitamins. Garlic capsules can’t hurt either.
feel better Nancy!!
xo *blows nose for the 100th time tonight*
