I woke up this morning (after only not quite six hours of sleep) in a cold sweat. Now, that may be peri-menopause (I have been waking in a sweat with alarming frequency lately) or it may be the sad, messy, disorganized and basically just time-crunched state of my life at present.
Here is my craft studio, after my kids made a craft of their own (which they promised to clean up after. Yeah, right!):
And here is my messy family room, still waiting to be tidied after the Easter egg hunt frenzy:
A gym bag seems to have exploded on the stairs:
And a similar explosion hit the kids’ bedroom:
And on top of these various messes, we have this week’s clean, unfolded laundry:
It’s getting kind of spread out now, as the kids root around in the basket for clean undies.
*SIGH*
As I lay, sweating, in bed this morning, I calculated that with a mere four hours more per day I could keep on top of it all: parenting, housework, laundry, cooking, recreation…life!
Now where is that time-turner?

My trick is inviting people over reasonably regularly. This forces me to get things (at least in the main rooms of the house) tidied. Although, it sometimes means grabbing piles of random stuff and chucking it into the spare bedroom during visits, so I don’t know if that actually counts as ‘clean’.
And, when you’re looking back on life way off in the future, you won’t care that your house wasn’t tidy. You’ll care that you enjoyed your life and your children! My new motto is “Go Clutter!”

I used to hear it said that it was a sign of a happy home!

Hey Kath!
When were you at my house? My daughter walked past while I was checking out your pics of laundry bins, which are exactly like ours quite literally…and said (are you ready for this?) “Mom,WHY did you take a picture of the laundry…it lasts long enough anyway! My daughter is eleven and even she seems to get the whole laundry thing~once it’s been washed and comes out of the dryer its fair game!! My studio resembles something left behind after a really bad storm…so have faith, and fight the power:)Just think you’ve still got enough marbles left to recognize all the foibles! Have a great day…and relax!!

Yes, I’m right there with you! Only I think some of my messes are a little older than yours. Although my bedroom seems to be immaculate one day and then a short two weeks later appears as though a tiny tornado was stirred up all the way around the bed.
The only reason my dining room, living room, and kitchen are clean right now is because my hubby is having friends over to play board games tonight. And I started that an hour and a half before he was supposed to be home.
I’m just having trouble finding the motivation to clean these days.
