Most of us have seen the video (and likely the spoof) of the new Real Beauty Sketches by Dove but this is one I hadn’t seen before. It is a special version featuring mothers and their daughters. I found this video in the series especially touching because I lost my mom almost 4 years ago.
As I watched the video I started to think about how I would describe my mom to the artist. Every word I thought of was a positive one – soft, bright, warm, sparkling. It made me remember her in a way I haven’t been able to for a while. The words were filled with memories of her bright smile, her sparkling eyes and her warm, soft skin against my cheek. It brought the feeling of her back to me, of how much I loved her, and how she looked through my eyes.
My mother was truly beautiful to me. That is how I saw her and how I remember every part of her. The lesson? I think we should all spend a little time seeing ourselves through our children’s eyes. To them, we are beautiful.
